Does anybody remember a Comedy Central show called "Viva Variety"? They had a hilarious sketch about a Vegas-style dreidel game. I was hoping to find it on YouTube, but it's not there. Bummer.

One of their weirder sketches was a CB radio presentation of "Oedipus Rex" in which the narration was something like this:

He killed his father, that was fratricide
Then he took his mama for a mattress ride.

When I cut out caffeine, I got rid of my acid reflux.

Why live?????
That's what I thought, too. I used to drink about five pots of coffee a day. No wonder I enjoy naps so much now.

FIVE POTS OF COFFEE A DAY!?!?!

Did you pee French Roast?
That was back in the days before Starbucks. It wasn't even good stuff, just office Maxwell House or Folger's.

I also smoked four packs a day then. It was easier to give up the cigs than the coffee.

I read the sample of Lacuna.  It's 59 Nook pages, don't know how many that is in the book.  I like it.  I think I may buy the ebook even if it is long.   But first I have to finish reading George Bush's book so I can give it to dad to read at christmas.   Yes, I'l reading Geroge Bush's book.  He's much more interesting now that he's retired

You think, Cillaliz? Maybe that was my problem back then. Now that I've quit both, i wonder what the problem is now.

And as the midnight hour approaches here on the East Coast, I believe I'm going to get a good night's sleep. (I hope.)

Goodnight.

I'm totally exhausted.  As always happens, when I don't get enough sleep my voice just gets so hoarse and I'm fighting that now - hopefully I'll get a good night's sleep tonight and all will be well.  I'll probably post the notes in about an hour and hit the hay.

Crazy rehearsal - one singer had an audition at three in Long Beach.  Well, naturally they were an hour and fifteen minutes behind and she called me at five-thirty and was stuck on the 405 freeway down by National.  At that point, the signs said thirty-five minutes.  So, everyone else got here and we waited.  And waited.  And waited.  Meanwhile, Vilanch came and he and Jason at least got to run their number a few times - neither one of them seemed to know the second complete time through the song so we're just doing the first time through, then patter, then right to the ending.  We finally started the stumble-through without the singer, as she was already over an hour late.  She arrived in time for her second song. Meanwhile, the show order works really well, but I felt two of Juliana's songs were way too long - couldn't tell when she was just running them at her solo rehearsals, but boy was it instantly apparent when we ran the show - so I asked her to stay after and I quickly made a few tempo changes, small cuts, and then two large lifts in each song - she sang through them and they were MUCH better.

Then I went to Jerry's Deli and had a huge bowl of chicken soup - that made me feel much better.

Of course, I have been swilling down EmergenC, tea, and other liquids all day and night and I have to go the bathroom every four minutes, so who knows how much sleep I'll get.
