A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE
« on: December 13, 2010, 12:35:39 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in a pear tree, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently listening to the Partridge in the Pear Tree, only they named the Partridge Shirley.

It's 5:27am. I can live with that. At least it's not 3:30am. I did go to bed around 9:45 after not taking any naps all day (it was difficult). I didn't have a great sleep (I kept dreaming about bags in the Equity lounge). I feel better and good enough that I will go in today for another round of bags. We still have 3 or 4 days left. But I have promised Anthony, Greg (our coordinator) and myself that I will not be quite so active. I don't want a repeat or something worse just before Christmas.

Morning, all!

TOD:

I'm sure there are a bunch of obscurities that I can't think of off the top of my head, but here goes:

* "Hurry It's Lovely Up Here"
* "I Talk to the Trees" (as done by the Smothers Brothers)
* "My Mother's Wedding Day"
* "Almost Like Being in Love"
* Everything from My Fair Lady, especially in Hebrew translation (and no, I'm not joking: there are actually TWO Hebrew cast recordings, each with its own charms)

Most shudder-inducing song: "Thank Heaven for Little Girls," which I heard played at a wedding as the flower-girl walked down the aisle

Not to put the quash on BK's "True Love," but the 12 Days of Christmas start on December 25, they don't end there.  :)

Is anyone here conversant with Hispanic music, or even Spanish?  I'm buying presents for a Hispanic man who wants music, and he put "Los Corridos" next to his request.  There doesn't seem to be a band with that name, but a cursory search of eBay seems to indicate it may be a style, like hip hop? ???  Does anyone know?

DR vixmom - Hopefully, you did not have any ice to scrape off of your car's windshield this morning. Tomorrow morning, however, could be a different story.

But DR JMK, it's not where you start, it's where you finish.

But if we start the 12 days of Christmas now, none of us will have our Epiphany.  (Sorry, couldn't resist).

When my family moved to Pennsauken, we had a pear tree in the back yard.  What a mess it was!  They were these hard, green pears that no one liked to eat except my dad, and I think he only pretended that he did.  During the last week of August, they would begin dropping from the tree like leaves.  And if they weren't picked up immediately, they would ripen overnight into a pulpy mess that would attract swarms of yellowjackets.  Eventually, my dad relented to our complaints and took the hated tree down.

This was my exact experience with a pear tree in my grandparents' field.
