Thanks for posting that about Margaret Whiting. I got to see her in the late 1990s in an odd touring production of an evening built around "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." It starred Whiting, Julius La Rosa, Carrie Nye and some people associated with the book, including the Lady Chablis and the woman who played piano. They all performed Johnny Merer songs or read passages from the book while John Berendt walked around not doing much. Whiting's voice wasn't all it had once been, but did she ever sell her songs. She was amazing, and I kept wishing there had been more of her. Well, more of her and the Lady Chablis.
