Was it a surprise that the BURLESQUE song that won the Golden Globe wasn't even nominated for the Oscar?

Are there normally only four song nominees?

TOD:

I've yet to see THE KING'S SPEECH, BLACK SWAN, THE FIGHTER or TRUE GRIT.

No interest in seeing 127 HOURS.

No real surprises.

My former UW classmate, David Seidler, did get nominated for Original Screenplay.

BK,

What did you think of the alternate ending for BROADCAST NEWS?

As for the Topic of the Day...

I'm still trying to track down the nominations. All I keep coming up with are the snubs. And my internet connection is running really slow this morning. ???

TOD: I think Paul Giamatti was probably overlooked, since he won the Golden Globe and the reviews for his movie, "Barney's Version," have been wonderful. But the Oscar has overlooked him several times in the past, most notably for "American Splendor."

I haven't seen enough of the other movies, but I would like to see "The King's Speech" and "Black Swan."

There are usually five. I remember one recent year when three songs from "Enchanted" were nominated and all lost. To what, I couldn't tell you. Sadly, the award has little relevance any more. And how much relevance do the Oscars have when many of the movies are out on DVD by the time the awards roll around?

"Hurt Locker" was on DVD six months before the awards. "Social Network" is out already.

Last night I watched THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER on TCM.  I remember I first saw the movie when I was about 12 years old on NBC Monday Night At The Movies and I was deeply disturbed by the ending.  It still comes across as a shocker.

I also DVR'ed THE BALLAD OF THE SAD CAFE, which I don't believe I've ever seen...
"Ballad" is one weird little movie with one weird little person in it.

Good morning, all!  Last night I dreamed of London; I was staying at Kim Criswell's, although she was not in the dream, and we were there because of an event concerning the late John McGlinn. Most of what I remember of the dream was a farewell party before I headed back to the States and we were waiting for Judy Kaye to show up. And she did, just as the alarm went off.

This morning I have to go to the McGliinventory office, install Finale 2011 on the new computer, have a meeting with paralegal Geri, and then head over to Toyland where I have an editing session with Mr Skip Kennon at 1pm. Following that, I will head back here for another round of tax tallies; I'm down to the Big 3: DVD, CD, Books/printed music. Last night I finished up promotional gifts, dinners, and purchases. I cannot believe I am so far ahead of the meeting with my accountant; I'm usually doing all of this one to two days before the meetingi. I'd like to think it's experience and maturity, but I really think it's luck.

DR TCB, I know who the singer David Adam Moore is,  but I do not know him. My friend Patrick Carfizzi is also performing in that production of BARBER OF SEVILLE in Seattle. Here's a visual aid for DR MBarnum.

Hmmm...that is someone you might introduce me to next time I come to NY. It would keep my out of your hair, at least for awhile.

I was so bad about gettting to any movies this last year, so I don't know from the Oscar noms, unfortunately.

It does make the Oscars so much more fun to watch if I have seen the films.  :-\

I haven't even heard of half the films that are nominated and I don't know who half the actors are.

The bus to Ipswich is connected with the film VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED which you must have seen at sometime - and you feel at times that all of those around you have been taken over by aliens.

Think? I know! That's the only explanation for 90% of what DR MBarnum says and does.

Keith made a Soylent Green reference to Craig this morning which reminded me he needs to see this to know what soylent green is.  I rushed to place it at the top of our Netflix queue & was just in time.  It should arrive tomorrow.
