I was at that wonderful concert of MAGDALENA and I have the CD. What I meant was t that that score should have been recorded with its original cast (Irra Petina, Dorothy Sarnoff, and John Raitt) in 1948 but the strike prevented it.

The amount of disillusion and the resulting disappointment I witnessed yesterday was both depressing and infuriating.

Well, that's depressing.

Try to look at it from a different perspective -- if you are in your 50s and taking an exercise class in a seniors center, chances are you will be the "star" of the class, presuming most of the class would be in their 70s and 80s.

Yes, DR Ron, I was definitely the youngest person in the exercise room this morning. This "class" is really guided individualized instruction on using the handweights and resistance bands - just what I need for my next step. Since I'm all warmed up from that, I'm going to take my basement walk now.

As for the Topic of the Day...

-"Mass" - I'm sooo happy that Naxos preserved Marin Alsop's rendition with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and forces that I was very fortunate to experience Live at Carnegie Hall a few seasons ago.
-Candide in it's various incarnations and variations.
-"La Bonne Cuisine" song cycle. -Who knew recipes could be so musical?

-"I Hate Music" song cycle.
-"Arias and Barcarolles" song cycle. I had a chance to play one of the piano parts (it's a duet accompaniment) with an opera company in DC many years ago. Challenging and moving.
-Some of the "Anniversaries" - Bernstein wrote various "tribute" pieces to various people (friends, composers, etc.) It's interesting to see how he interpreted them through his music.
-Trouble in Tahiti - The whole "There is a garden..." sequence destroys me every time. -And then I get picked up again by "What a movie!".

COPLAND remains one of my favorite Sylvester Stallone films. They took some liberties with Copland's life story, but it was better than neglecting this composing master.

DR vixmom - You can actually prep the original stuff the night before. When I'm in an Irish Oatmeal Mode, I prepare four servings at once: 1 cup of oatmeal, 4 cups of water. I prep it the night before by bring the water to a boil, then adding the oatmeal. I then bring it back up to boil for a minute or two, then turn off the heat and let it sit until morning. You can then either heat it all up on the stove, or microwave individual portions. -You can also freeze it in Zip-Loc bags if you don't think you'll be eating all of it over the course of the next couple of days.
