Another great lady gone.  I'm sorry to hear about Helen Stenborg, DR Elmore.

I'm up and awaiting the arrival of tape transfer guy who's returning a couple of reels so that I can then return them to the vaults.

I've been bitten by Broadway
And there's no cure!
I've been bitten by Broadway--
I'm done, for sure!
The Great White Way
Took a nip on my butt!
And now I pray
I won't slip when I strut!

I've just had horrible news. My friend, actress Helen Stenborg, has died at age 86. I dearly loved her and I will miss her enormously.

I found a photo of Helen with Timothy Busfield. I just spoke to her daughter Lauren.

My condolences on the loss of your friend, Larry. :'(

Sorry to go quiet there for a while - our internet went down briefly, probably due to the "severe" weather we're having.  Still sunny and warm...

Dear Lar, I know how much you cared for Helen. I saw her in Vigil (her last performance, I believe, Off-Broadway). She had a great life and career and you were blessed to be her friend.

I turned on the new laptop this afternoon at lunch. It all seems to be working correctly. I just have to enter the information to make the wireless card work so we can use it for Internet and for when/if Anthony goes out of town.

It will take some getting used to visually as well. But I think it's all for the best.

The desktop computer has been delayed and the pending date of delivery is now April 4th.

With the passing of Ms. Taylor, I'm trying to recall what stars are left from Hollywood's Golden Era:

Olivia de Havilland
Joan Fontaine
Luise Rainer
Mickey Rooney
Kirk Douglas
Ann Blyth
Angela Lansbury
Celeste Holm
Jane Powell
Shirley Temple
Eleanor Parker

Anybody else?

Even though she had a fairly short career (last picture in 1949) Deanna Durbin is still alive and living in France.

Good Afternoon!

Well, I have to say that my "existence" over the past two weeks has really helped me with my time management issues. I started running errands at 11:00, and in under three hours I managed to get to my storage unit, drop off some music, checked in on a friend's new restaurant by Grand Central, made a run down to City Bakery for some of their Hot Chocolate "At Home" boxes and shopped for some snacks at the Union Square Greenmarket for my train ride.

Whew!

So in that "Audra McDonald to play Bess at A.R.T." story that broke yesterday

http://www.playbill.com/news/article/149072-Audra-McDonald-Reveals-Casting-in-Porgy-and-Bess-at-ART

does this mean they may actually be changing (or supplementing) some of George Gershwin's own melodies and harmonies?
I wondered that myself. Or if they will go back to doing it as a musical with speech in between songs. I hope it won't end up like "Carmen: The Hip-Hopera."

I'm a bit scared of what could end up happening to that Work Of Art too.  From what I've "heard", most of the changes will involve incorporating passages from the original play, thus making it more of a "play with music".  Well, in this case, a "play with arias".

*I'm just wondering what's going to happen to the orchestration.

And a little while ago, there were some big, ole fluffy flakes of snow falling on the Upper East Side. It was very pretty.

And speaking of trains... I have one to catch in about two hours.

Time to get the rest of my stuff together, and head down to Penn Station.

Laters...

DR elmore - When you book your Amtrak tickets, do you use "Julie" on their automated phone system? "Julie" can come in quite handy especially in regard to securing a cheaper fare. You can book with "Julie", and not have to pay for the ticket until later. -You also insure a space for you during peak travel periods. 1-800-USA-RAIL (872-7245)

Thanks for the tip, DR Jose!

You're welcome, DR elmore.

*And if you happen to be an Amtrak Guest Rewards member, they're are running a special Double & Triple Points promotion. You just have to click on the promotion on their homepage to register for it. It's amazing how fast (or slow) you can earn a free trip segment.

**Additionally, if you reserve with "Julie" and don't pick-up/purchase the ticket later, there's no penalty for (not) doing so. So, if you happen to have a possible date in mind, it might be a good idea to go ahead and make the reservation. -And since we're in the midst of Spring Break season in NYC, that might be a good thing.

Nah. I'm thinking something more along the lines of: three keyboards, a gut-bucket bass, jug, banjo and a harmonic (non-chromatic, of course).
