Hmm...well I don't know what was going on the last time I was here (again, hanging my head in shame), so I'll just summarize what I'm doing right now!

I graduated from James Madison University in May of last year, and in September, I moved to Ann Arbor, MI, where I'm studying for my Masters in Opera Performance. It was a huge transition, moving to a city where I didn't know a single person, but I learned to love Michigan. The university is top-notch, and as a result, I'm getting some incredible opportunities. Actually, this weekend, I'm singing in the University Opera Theatre production of Mark Adamo's Little Women!

And then a week and a half after, I'm singing Dorabella in a workshop performance of Act I of Cosi Fan Tutte. My teacher, Melody Racine, is a perfect match for me, and I'm improving by leaps and bounds with her. She's a rather big name in the Music Theatre world, she's had a number of pretty famous people study with her, but she's also a fantastic opera technician. I'm very busy, but I love it. I'm also very fortunate to be taking voice literature classes with Martin Katz, a HUGE name collaborative pianist, he's basically a walking encyclopedia. Tim Cheek is on faculty here as well, and he's the world expert on Czech vocal literature, so I'm taking a course with him where I get to learn tons of Czech repertoire.

Sooooo I'm really happy! Still with my boyfriend of almost 4 years, Tim...things are great :). He was just accepted to the University at Buffalo for grad school to study Volcanology in their Geology department, which is a huge relief (Buffalo is only 5 hours from AA if you cut through Canada)!

...that about sums me up! How is everyone here?

With the passing of Ms. Taylor, I'm trying to recall what stars are left from Hollywood's Golden Era:

Olivia de Havilland
Joan Fontaine
Luise Rainer
Mickey Rooney
Kirk Douglas
Ann Blyth
Angela Lansbury
Celeste Holm
Jane Powell
Shirley Temple
Eleanor Parker

Anybody else?

Even though she had a fairly short career (last picture in 1949) Deanna Durbin is still alive and living in France.

I agree she should be included on this list.

...you have no idea how far the puns have gone over the semester, but I'll say that they started in January, when I brought my checkbook to pay for my Czech book and I wrote the check to Tim Cheek but had to check the spelling.

They are ENDLESS and fun!

My son went to Detroit for New Years, from Chicago, and of course stopped at Zingerman's.  He sent me a couple of Ginger Jump-Up cookies.

I just went to Grizzly Peak for the first time last night, and had some sweet potato fries!!!!! What a coincidence!! Also, I am currently a contingent employee of Zingerman's Deli! I worked there through last semester, but with the two operas right now, I couldn't keep a regular schedule, so I'm just on-hold until next fall, I think.

I have to say that Ann Arbor has an amazing selection of bars and restaurants...I'm not much of a "going-out" type college student, but I try to go to a new place every week. Favorites are the Sidetrack bar/restaurant in Ypsilanti, Cafe Habana, and the Black Pearl downtown.

I never made it to many bars but the restaurants are great.  Did you dip your fries in the may/pesto sauce?  If not ask for it next time.

Melody is seriously an incredible voice teacher, and she attracts major talents. Bragging time: this is one of my greatest friends from UofM, Hailey Clark, who is also in Melody's studio. I'm trying to send this video in as many directions as possible, she's INCREDIBLE and deserves as much attention as she can get! I'm also living with her next year, and hopefully I can gain some of this beauty from osmosis!

elmore - What time was you dream?  I was sending "patience and financial sense vibes" to you around 1 a.m. so wouldn't that be something if it times out that way?

:)

It was around 4 am or so, DR FJL.

I've just had horrible news. My friend, actress Helen Stenborg, has died at age 86. I dearly loved her and I will miss her enormously.

I found a photo of Helen with Timothy Busfield. I just spoke to her daughter Lauren.

I am so sorry Elmore

John G., Swishy Sarah was one of our teens here at one time, until she went away to college and had to study all the time.
