How is Cleopatra's Daughter?

The book's premise and content were interesting, but the writing style didn't really "sing" to me or to the other members of my group.  The other readers who were at the discussion in Cincinnati lo-o-o-oved it, so the 4 of us pretty much kept our mouths shut.

I am wondering if I read this----

is this about the daughter and her brother being raised by Mark Anthony's  widow?  Is the book's narrator the daughter?

She is fascinated by the black widows. And she can hardly wait until we go to see the bats some night.

them Roman's was  an incestuous  bunch!

I meant that Mark Anthony's  sister was Octavian's wife  (who I think ended up raising Cleopatra's children - who were fathered by Mark Anthony )  and I believe Mark Anthony's widow was Octavian's sister

Sounds like the same book, DR Vixmom.  The twins are raised in Rome by the wife that Marc Antony left for Cleopatra.  She was also Octavian's sister.  The author has written books about Nefertiti, Nefertari, and (most recently) Madame Tussaud.  I might try that last one, just because we're getting ready to visit Paris later this year.

Bat
s I can watch from a safe distance -

However where spiders are concerned for me a safe distance would be approximately 500,000 miles

The people responsible for the exhibit told us last night that someone in their office put Cleopatra's data into Family Tree Maker, the genealogy software, and it kind of went TILT!!!

Are you reading the whole series or just the one book?  I LOVED these books - I bought the whole series for my neice who also loved them  but much to my surprise I could never interest the Vixter in them

and the Romans of Caesar's time were all related to one another since they kept marrying into each others families for political reasons and then divorcing when the politics changed

DR Cillaliz - here's a recipe I've been using for years:

28 oz can Campbell's Pork & Beans
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup catsup
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
1 teaspoon hotdog relish (mustard & pickle relish combo)
1 small onion, chopped (optional - I leave this out)

Combine and pour into a baking dish.  Put bacon slices on top, if desired.  Bake at 375o for about an hour, until bubbly.

This recipe doubles and triples well and I've made it in a crockpot with great success.  Also, if you don't have the hotdog relish, just use a teaspoon and a half of mustard and half a teaspoon of pickle relish and the result is the same.  And leftovers, cold, on pumpernickel bread make a great sandwich!

So, I bought a new automatic drip coffee maker today and just unpacked it, washed the carafe, and followed the christening instructions, running a pot of plain water through the brew cycle.  It took f-o-r-e-v-e-r and not near as much water came out as went in.  If it doesn't do any better with coffee tomorrow morning, it's going back to Kroger.

Rehearsal was fun - still some roughness on one particular duet, but it will be fine by Tuesday.  Listening to everything today was good as I made some adjustments to my running order - but it's a really fun group of songs.

DR Vixmom, I bought the cheapest 12-cup Mr. Coffee, because I didn't want anything fancy.

DR Laura, With 2 coffee-drinkers (Rob and myself) wanting several cups in quick succession, the Keurig seems inefficient to me.  I know lots of people who love them - so convince me!
