Re: the Opening number. I really liked it.  But who are the viewers for the Tonys?  Yes a lot of gay men love theatre.  But doesn't CBS have an older audience?

To me 8pm is when kids are still watching. And not sure that the Opening number would be appropriate for them. Well they wouldn't understand most of it.

I thought it was fun though. And loved how all the different casts were interwoven into Neil Patrick Harris' song.   I really love him. I've seen him co-host with Kelly Ripa many times. And he's just wonerful.

DR Michael S - The seating capacity of The Beacon hovers around 2800 depending upon seating configurations.

The seating capacity at The Gershwin - the largest Broadway house - is around 1900, but is only 1809 for Wicked.

The seating capacity at Radio City: around 6000.

The Beacon is larger than a Broadway theatre, but MUCH smaller than The Beacon.

He means Radio City.

DR Jennifer - Alas, chocolate is not good for your throat. Sadly, it can cause acid reflux.

Even hot chocolate?  It felt good at the time. I needed to constantly have hot drinks. And i'm not a big coffee or tea drinker.

Especially hot chocolate. Chocolate is mildly acidic. -And with whatever else is in your hot chocolate mix, well....  Sorry.

DR Michael S - Since the show moved to The Beacon, there were no tickets offered for public sale this year.

I thought they were doing it. Isn't the Beacon larger than a normal Broadway house?

AT LAST!!!  A real, old-fashioned, by God Broadway musical number - The Scottsboro Boys.   Simple, choreography that has a point, wonderfully performed, and a real, REAL Broadway composer - John Kander.  Thrilling.  I guess I'll have to get the CD now.

The Mormon number was fine - not a great song, but the actor was very good and it was fun.  The laughs, however, continue to be canned.  There have been several times when you can actually here them dialing in - anyone who's ever added laughs to a show or a recording is very aware of what that sounds like :)

I believe the recording is the Off-Broadway version if that willl make a difference

I think that I'd read that, also.

....And even though there were a couple of tweaks after the show's off-Broadway run at The Vineyard during it's pre-Broadway run at The Guthrie, the OCR is only really not missing that much "new" material from the Broadway run.

In other words, it was recorded a few days after it closed at The Vineyard. And, if I'm remembering correctly, there was only one major cast change.

OY! I'm tired.

I just remembered that I was wakened by a gaggle of potential-Annie's at 7:45 this morning.

My apologies for my run-on sentences and snark.

That supporting gal from Mormon was completely irritating in her endless, tearful (without actual tears - funny that) speech.  As I said, good think I left my shoes in another part of the home environment.  John Larroquette, on the other hand, short and sweet and off - a pro.

The Spiderman number had nice stars in the sky - the song was ordinary and those stupid microphones are an embarrassment.  And they're sitting in a big theater acting for film.  No.

And every time we cut to the audience (and that includes the balcony) the disconnect between the applause and cheering we're HEARING as opposed to what we're SEEING is hilarious.
