Kritzerland at the Gardenia 12 was wonderful! I ended up sitting at a table with Alet Taylor and her husband. She insisted we had met before, but I told her I had only seen her perform many times, both at Gardenia shows and in "Nudie". She said something about how it's always fun to sing about dildos. I told them both I would miss hearing them sing tonight, but she said she was happy to relax in the audience for a change.
Poor Melody Hollis always gets stuck with the songs with the most complicated lyrics, but again, she came through without missing a word. After the show, she was talking to Alet and I mentioned about the lyrics, and she said, "None of the adults ever want to do those songs, so I end up with them." She's very precocious. Anyway, as I was listening to her song, "Postcard" I thought, this is such a weird song, and sure enough, afterwards Bruce said, "isn't that the weirdest song you've every heard?"
This show had the least familiar cast of all the shows - I think I only recognized one person, and the least familiar songs - I think I only recognized one song. But it was delightful just the same. Everyone chanting, "what is it fish?" all togther was hilarious.
The Guy Haines song was wonderful and Bruce didn't seem nervous at all. His voice was in very fine form. This was the first time I'd heard him sing in public since "Dance a Little Closer" at S.T.A.G.E. And Mark and I didn't even know who Guy Haines was then, so it had indeed been a very long time. I hope he sings again at the Gardenia soon.
