IN LIVING COLOR

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were colorful despite being in black-and-white, and now it is time for you to post until the colorful cows come home.

So far, so good...

When I boarded, the two seats next to me were filled - I had the window seat. However, once the cabin doors were closed, I was able to move up two rows to my own row. Yay!

*The couple in the two seats next to me kept repacking their carry-on luggage. In the course of their repacking, I noticed two TV remotes, an issues of TV Guide, a Nintendo console, and a Disney Princesses fleece throw. ::)

As for the Topic of the Day...

I kind of remember always having a television. The only specific memories I have are of going to Sears with my dad whenever he had to buy new tubes for our huge black and white console. I always wanted to place them on that big testing console.

I think we got our first color TV when I seven or eight-years old. And my first memories of a television show in color: "Sesame Street", "New Zoo Revue", "Captain Kangaroo", "That Girl!", and "Love, American Style" (those fireworks! ;)).

That's fun when that happens.  (Could you have switched at the gate before boarding, or does seat changing not work that way?)

Good morning, all! I awoke around 5:45 with a terrible charley horse in my left calf. I haven't had one in some time, so that alarms me. I tried to go back to sleep, and decided the hell with it around 6:30. I got up, bathed and spent some time on Google reading about the muscular cramp referred to as a charley horse. I suspect I'll be hobbling about most of the day.

Today I'm seeing for the first time in at least fifteen years my friend Lee, with whom I worked for several years at The Drama Book Shop. He's been living in Los Angeles for some time, and he's back to NYC this week. We've spoken on the phone several times since he moved, but it will be fun to catch up.

DR John G, I'm sorry to hear about your uncle's situation.

Although I'm late in typing this,

Off to get ready for work.  Oh well.

TOD:

I don't remember NOT having a television set.....the first one I remember was very small, and had a door on the front that could be closed so it looked like a cabinet.  Black and white of course.....and the first show I remember watching is Santa Claus...a local show with kids - and I wanted to be on it, but I never was.

First color set was around 1963 or so....BONANZA was big.  But when we got the television on a Saturday, the first show that we saw in color, was Midwestern Hayride, a square dance and country music show from WLW in Cincinnati which was shown on its sister station WLWI in Indy.

DR JRand61, I love your attitude. I've worked for the past year - and vowed never again - with a wonderful talent who folds up and is unable to work if he has something as innocuous as the hiccups. He's like a southern belle swooning on a divan with the vapours. His hypochondria and attitude are ridiculous, and he wonders why his career never went anywhere!

I remember my family clustered about a small picture with moving black and white images in a dark room of my grandmother's house around 1949, when I was three. My earliest memories of television beyond that are my grandmother watching Gorgeous George and other wrestlers late in the evening and my brother Macbeth and me watching "Howdy Doodie" and "Kukla, Fran & Ollie."

First color television around 1965. The program was the remake of "Peter Pan" with Mary Martin.

Oh yes....Peter Pan is color.....but it was very weird because Peter was played by a very old woman....and he kept saying he wanted his shadow, and we could see it clearly on the wall behind "him."

TOD

We had B & W until the early 70's. I would go stay with my grandparents Friday night so I could watch saturday mornng cartoons in color. We also didn't have cable so sometimes if I was at home we couldn't always get over the air broadcasts.

Well, the day dawns with nice blue skies. So I guess the ".67" rain we were supposed to get must actually mean "you can point to six or seven drops."
