Isn't DINER the movie with the you-know-whatzis in the popcorn?

Mickey Rourke in DINER - the popcorn scene
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARvdUBkNoDU

Hmm, maybe that scene is not suitable for work.

The guy forgot about our date to check out the irrigation system. I had to call and remind him.

Another frustrating day with the NYPL; things I once found on historical newspapers online I cannot locate today. I don't know if the pianist is Miss Louie or Miss Lottie Mills, although i suspect Louie is a typesetter error. On the plus side, I ran into my friend David Charles Abell, a fantastic conductor, and I got to visit with Bob Kosovsky, my favorite music librarian.

And so, to work.

Morning all. I arrived in Istanbul late last night, with my sister and niece (my brother's daughter) after a rather bumpy flight. Had problems at first in accessing the hotel wi fi network but am relieved to be connected to the internet world again! I requested a change to the room I was given because it was not what I had asked for so that caused some hassle as well. Very (too) hot here but a very fascinating city with lots to see and do.
;DR Doug R - If you get a chance, could you stop in and say Hi to my friend, Berke. He's in Instanbul now too. ;)

If I come across him I certainly will  :D

You will find DR DOUG R that one of the great things about HHW is that no matter WHERE you go, there is a connection to somebody here.

Were you waiting long before you called?  I hope he was very apologetic.

I called after waiting 20 minutes. He came in another 40 minutes. So an hour late total. It was hot by that time. But I was able to show him what I was talking about.

I didn't realize how many people were rescued by boat on 9/11.

CNN did a really cook show on that over the 911 weekend.  Not sure if that's what you linked to, I'll have to look.

Only one more hour till take off.  It was either change planes or sit and wait for awhile. This isn't that bad

It's not fixed. Probably won't be until the weather cools off enough that we can work out in the sun. It is still over 100 here. I've been saying there's whole sections where there's no water getting to the plants. Everything by the traffic light is dead. Things that should be lush and blooming are just trying to hang on.

I did enjoy the old courthouse and the film on the Dred Scott case.  The courthouse is way cool, love the restoration.  It's the building you often see in the middle of the arch

I am very proud of myself for taking the metro train to the airport.  I'm somewhat leary of taking the train by myself with luggage in a town I'm not familiar with, but I decided what the heck and it worked out great

And since the station was across the street from Busch Stadium....and because the cardinals on the shirts in the window of the team store looked so cute.....I bought a shirt.  The security lady was following me as I wheeled around my bag in the store, so I got her involved in helping me pick out a shirt

OH, DR Laura, I saw a monarch at the arch and I saw a Monarch outside my hotel and I saw a monarch at the train station.  I thought of you each time

I've been taking the bus whenever I go to LA for meetings. Saves someone a lot of time having to drive to the airport to pick me up.
