I am sitting in a teleconference meeting, but I heard thunder outside. I think it is raining.

It was close and the vet was surprised the pulp wasn't exposed.

It was 85 degrees today.  It's been in the 80s all week.   It's so dry that there are burn bans and fields catching fire from sparks from the combines.  We really need rain.

I decided it was too nice to sit in a meeting, so I skipped my historic pres commission meeting and came home to work on the gazebo.  the outside is painted the inside is 1/2 painted.  All I need to do is paint the bench and the floor.  I changed it from white to brown.  It's not the brown I thought I was buying back in May, but I can work with it. I'm pretty close to out of paint, so I may get a different paint for the rest.  Probably porch and floor paint, it lasts longer.

I've decided to take the screens and the door off the gazebo.  They had somehow turned into a place for spiders to catch bugs.   It wasnt' keeping the bugs out and well....it wasn't that inviting.  With it all open, I think i may actually use it.  I'll need to spray for bugs, and I did get eaten up the first day I was painting, but I still like it better.   I'll keep the door and screens so i can change my mind, but for now, I'm going to leave it wide open.

DR Ginny I just saw this ad:
http://www.mobal.com/international-cell-phones/

Thanks, DR Jane.  I'll have Richard look at it tomorrow.  We're leaning toward just leaving our hotel and boat phone numbers with people here and getting a calling card when we get there.

Good Evening!

Tonight's concert by the New York Philharmonic was quite wonderful. They started off with Barber's "Essay for Orchestra" and closed with Dvorak's 7th Symphony. Both pieces were well played and beautiful interpreted. In between those two pieces was the World Premiere (is it still a "World Premiere" even if it the third performance? In any case...) of John Corigliano's "One Sweet Morning" for Mezzo-Soprano and Orchestra. Stephanie Blythe was the soloist and she really communicated the various texts about war and death with great clarity and emotion, and the orchestra handled Corigliano's very vivid and difficult writing with ease. -And John Corigliano was on hand tonight to take a bow with Miss Blythe, Maestro Gilbert and the Philharmonic.

Seeking advice from international travelers!

Richard and I just visited our local Verizon store and were not thrilled with what they told us about cell phone usage in Europe.  We then spent some time investigating international calling cards at Kroger.

Any and all advice regarding what to do about phones in Europe would be appreciated!

There are companies that will sell you a chip/card to insert in your current phone so that you can use it their country with a local carrier. They usually have kiosks set up at the airports. You can buy a certain amount of days of service.

Now if you're wanting to use your phone so that people in the States can reach you, well... If you know the number of your hotel now, that's probably the best course of action.

If you have a phone with internet/data capability be sure to turn off the "Data Roaming" as soon as you get on the plane to France, if not before. There are many tales of people getting stuck with outrageous phone bills due to their phones working in the background thus running up their data usage.

As for phone cards, it's usually best to buy one once you get to where you are going.

Ahhhh. I stepped out of the meeting building, and there was no traffic. It was SILENT. And damp. And cool. Ahhhhh.

Oh.. And I believe I passed another kidney stone earlier this morning... Ouch! Thus my own case of moving slower than expected this morning.
I am prone to those. Man, are they a pain. Vibes you are done with it.

Thank You, DR John G. Alas, I have a feeling that I may still be dealing with them for a few more days. What bothers me the most about them is the lower back pain I develop. It truly makes getting out of bed in the morning something unpleasant and something that I really have to "plan" and think about.

Finished with my viewing.  Would really love to have gotten another ten and a half hours of sleep but I'm getting up at six to announce our 100th CD title.  I shall then promptly go back to bed.

Must be errant & truant.  Very behind in my daily routine of life.   Not having my car in a car town sucks.

End of rant.
