What a wonderful evening it turned out to be!

I found out last week that the one piece of trash that my storage unit does not take in their dumpster are mattresses. I, of course, wanted to finally throw out my 12-year old mattress that has been taking up space in my storage unit for the past six months. -I don't know why I didn't think to ditch it earlier when I was moving everything into there? Well...

Since trash pick-up in that neighborhood is on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, I had planned to wheel it out of there last week and place it on the sidewalk outside of one of the apartment buildings in the neighborhood to be picked up. Well, it turned out that the carts they use at Manhattan Storage are equipped with those sensors that will lock the wheels once it leaves the property - like some grocery stores use on their shopping carts. So, this morning, I took a chance and texted Cody to see if he could help me out later, and it turned out he could.

So, I wheeled down my old mattress to the loading dock, Cody showed up, we picked it up, walked it the block and a half to 135th Street, dumped it on a pile of garbage bags, and then proceeded to walk to the subway to take it down to 86th Street, since I wanted to take him to Ditch Plains for dinner. Well...

Well...

Since DR elmore had mentioned that he had something for me, I decided to give him a call since we were going to be walking right past his apartment anyway. He said I could stop by, so I did. And I just happened to have Cody with me...

...And after about an hour of some great stories and laughs, we finally headed up the street to Ditch Plains for dinner.

It really was a great visit, and I'm so glad that Cody and Larry got to meet face to face.

As we were finishing up our dinner, my friend, Brendan, said he was looking for a place to grab a bite to eat. Ditch Plains is open until 2:00am, seven days a week, so I suggested he come up there. And the timing was perfect. I walked with Cody to 86th and Central Park West. Cody took the A train home, and a few minutes later, Brendan showed up... And I walked back to Ditch Plains with him, and hung out for a while while he ate. That's when...

And after Brendan finished eating, and we finished catching up - OH! and after I made sure to introduce Brendan to the new Host ;) - then I headed home.

Thankfully, I organized and packed everything before I left. All I have to do in a few hours is put on my traveling clothes and head to the airport.

A nice desk is a must.

DR JANE congrats on the new appliances....

Thank you.  The "sheets" setting seems to understand I have king size sheets.

Yep, those new-fangled washers have built in "scales" and sensors that can tell how many clothes you're putting in (by weight), as well as the heft of the fabric.

Kind of creepy if you ask me. ;)

I just had a visit from Will Parker! Our DR Jose stopped by with his friend Cody Williams for a brief visit, and I got to meet him and tell him how much I loved the video of him and the little girl performing "All Er Nothin'." I finally found Jose's birthday gift in the rubble of my apartment, so I was able to give him that as well. It's been a wonderful evening.

Yes, it was!

I really don't understand why I ever went bankrupt.

Are you talking about your bank account or your morals?

I Don't Get It #2

My DVD of Lost Horizon was sent via UPS, but tracking today it said that it was transfered to the Post Office in West Palm.

Why would a package sent via UPS be transfered to a Post Office facility 25 miles from where I live?

Some businesses do that now, especially for smaller packages that are not that time sensitive that do not require a signature upon delivery. Basically the business uses UPS to deliver the package by air from one main hub to another main hub - usually bundled with other packages destined for that area. Then the package is handed off to the local central USPS post office, where, ideally, it will be delivered right to your door the next day, or at the most two days later. It's kind of like using Priority Mail without using Priority Mail.

I WANT A SLAW DOG!!!

We almost ordered the Ditch Dogs tonight at Ditch Plains. What's a Ditch Dog you may ask? Well, a Ditch Dog is a hot dog topped with macaroni and cheese. And, if you'd like, you could also get a "splash" of chili on that too.

And Elmore, why isn't Encores doing "The Cradle Will Rock"? It's so perfect to go with Occupy Wall Street. I just finished the Patti LuPone cast recording and, man, would I love to see that done outdoors for the protestors with the actors walking out of the crowd the way that they walked out of the audience on that opening night ages ago. Instead of a piano, you could have a portable electronic keyboard.

Umm... Something is already in the works. Alas, due to my prior commitments, I won't be able to be a part of it.
