A HAZE OF A DAZE AND A WHALE OF A TALE
« on: October 18, 2011, 12:17:02 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were written in a haze of a daze and contained more than one whale of a tale, and now it is time for you to post until the hazy cows come home.

TOD:
I love potatoes - for me, a meal isn't a proper meal unless it's got potatoes in it. I like them any which way; mashed, fried, baked or simply boiled. I think my favorites are Dauphinoise and potato rosti.

From yesterday:

John G what awful circumstance that happened to your firends. It proves that there is no such thing as a simple surgery. Anything might happen. Prayers and good vibes to her.

And Also to Skip and Fred from last week (if I recall correctly).

Work has been the usual hectic place it always is in late October.

I forget things.

I'm just a country boy at heart. I like my potatoes mashed, home fries (cooked on a skillet with onions and peppers) and french fried

Yet another Blu dropped through the mail box today. How am I supposed to find time to watch all these things? Maybe I should stop buying them! This was the double feature of SHE and THINGS TO COME and a DVD of THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME on the Legend label in black and white and colorised versions. Good value for money at least. I bought it because I haven't seen SHE or THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME. They both look good. THINGS TO COME looks OK but I don't need that anyway because I have the UK Network DVD which is excellent.

TOD: I love good German potato pancakes with a little applesauce on the side. But, unfortunately, potatoes are up there with flour, rice and corn, so I can't have any.

A lightish lunch today of Chorizo and toast before getting ready to go downtown for the regular Tuesday evening heavy eating and drinking session!  It's turned chilly so it's time to wrap up.

Good morning, all! I had another night of bizarre dreams, and now I remember none of them. I slept late and wanted to sleep later, but I have to head into Encores! and help Joshie today. I originaly planned to be there by 10, but he called me last night and asked me to come in around 11:00.

DR JohnG, I'm sorry to hear that your friend is in critical shape. I send my sympathy to you, her friends and famly.

It's time for more coffee and a bit more work on THE RED MILL before I head out.

DR Cillaliz, re: the slow swimmers who wait till I get to the end to start.

I don't think they are doing it to slow me down. I didn't mean to imply that. It just bugs me when people don't have common sense. There are sometimes faster swimmers than me and I always let them pass me before I start. It's just common courtesy.  I think that maybe the slower swimmers just think that they should go first since they got there first. And they probably don't realize that they will be holding me up. Heck, some of them might not even be able to see well enough to know they are in the fast lane.

DR Jane, can you only reserve a library book once it's in the system?  Can you suggest books?

As for the Topic of the Day...

The Carlyle (Grand Cafe) in Arlington, VA, used to have an appetizer of house-made potato chips drizzled with pesto and bleu cheese. It was soooooo good. The garlic and the basil in the pesto really helped to cut through and balance the fattiness of the cheese and the fried potato chips. And you had to eat the whole bowl as soon as they were placed on your table, because once they cooled down they weren't quite so yummilicious.

The Carlyle also used to offer a side of "garlic-potato cake", but it was actually more like a slice of a potato gratin casserole. Shredded potatoes mixed with a garlic cream, then baked until crispy on the top and bottom while still creamy in the middle. Now they serve mashed cauliflower. ::)

My guilty pleasure potato dish: A double order of The Hash Browns at Waffle House All The Way! Scattered (on the grill), Smothered (onions), Covered (cheese), Chunked (diced ham), Diced (grilled tomatoes), Peppered (jalapeño peppers), Capped (mushrooms), Topped ("Bert's Chili") and Country (sausage gravy)! -Usually the only meal I have to have all day.
