That is a FABULOUS carpet, Cillaliz. Great find.

Although I don't suppose you so much found it as it just jumped out at you.

Finished with my viewing and am starting to listen to parts of the new master - it's not quite finished yet, and some of what I've heard thus far isn't to my liking, so we have some work to do.  This is a very problematic thing - the LP masters are not great (therefore the LP and its two CD incarnations were equally not great) - we're trying to at least give them some oomph and depth and smoothness that they've never had.  The stuff taken from the Blu-ray doesn't sound as good as I hoped it would.  So, trying to figure out exactly why that is.

Red at The Goodman Theatre was quite wonderful - even if I had to endure two of the most annoying fellow audience members I've ever had the displeasure of sitting next to. A great play, a great cast, and great production. The actor portraying Mark Rothko is Edward Gero; he's been a staple of the D.C. theatre scene for as long as I can remember. -And this production was co-produced with Arena Stage, and it will be traveling to DC later in the season.

So...

After eating an enormous breakfast at Ann Sather - Oh, those Cinnamon Buns! - I met up with my friends, Cory and Lisa, and checked out their new condo. Very nice.

Then I headed to the Art Institute of Chicago. Of course, since the AIC is a museum, Monkey came along too. And as Monkey and I were about to enter the AIC, I heard someone say, "Hello, Jose!" It turned out to be NPR's own Jeff Lunden - who also happens to be a composer. In fact, one of his songs appeared on bk's "Shakespeare On Broadway" album: "It's Love... I Think" from Another Midsummer Night. And his companion was one of the Grand Dames of the Chicago theatre scene, Linda Stephens. Linda starred in Jeff and Art Perlman's musical version of Arthur Kopit's play, Wings. -And I played keyboards when Signature Theatre did Wings back in 1996(?) - which is where I first met Jeff. And Linda is currently in Follies at Chicago Shakes.

Small world!

I had a great visit to the AIC. As always, I started off with the Seurat, and then just wandered around for a couple of hours, before....

It turns out that a young woman I met when I was doing a show at American University who ended up marrying the former casting director of Arena Stage is now living and working in Chicago. She noticed I was in Chicago via my Facebook posts, and sent me a message. I thought she and Eli were still living in Texas. Nope. She's clerking at a law office, and it turns out her office is just a few blocks from the AIC, so we met at Intelligentsia over some coffee and tea, and had a great catch up session.

She's also a new mother - her son is two and a half months old. In fact, her son was born right after she had taken the Bar Exam. Literally, the afternoon after she had finished the morning session. She even ended up garnering some local press from that!

Since my friend, David, is still sick, I cancelled my reservation for dinner at The Publican, and decided on a whim to see what was available at HotTix, which is Chicago's version of TKTS. I noticed that Red was listed, however, it turned out I got there too late to get them at the HotTix kiosk. The clerk suggested I go to The Goodman to see if they had any "MezzTix" available, which is their day-of 1/2-price program. Well, they did! I ended up with a great seat: mezzanine, front row, right in the center. Perfect! -Except for the two gentlemen(?) next to me. But I'm not going to dwell on them just yet. ;)

So, hopefully, David will be all better tomorrow so that he can see Follies with me. I'm hoping to check out some places in Lincoln Park in the morning before my matinee concert of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra - Berg, Violin Concerto and Mahler 4! Then some chill time before Follies.

And the word of the day is: INTUIT!

And The Song Of The Day Is:  PRETTY LITTLE PICTURE

(Question:  PRETTY seems to be one Of Mr. Stephen Sondheim's Favorite Words-
Agree? Any Other Favorite Sondheim Words?)

Yes, "pretty" is one of his favorite words.

As is "f*ck".

Desk is assembled.  Glass top is COLD!

Well put some pants on!

No--it says specifically NOT to set heavy and/or hot items on the glass.  :)

Well... Anything to avoid unsightly smudges.

I will soon be interviewing Francis Ford Coppola's archivist.  You still have time to submit your questions.  :)
Can you get free bottles of Rubicon, my favorite of FFC's wines? And one I can't afford.

OK, well, it's a question.

Um... I was actually given two free bottles on Rubicon. They were part of some vineyard promo the restaurant was doing. And I still have them. So... :)

I opted for the cab.  It was raining when I got here and I wasn't sure how to get from the train to the hotel.   We just beat rush hour, but it was an expensive ride.   My cabbie was a fascinating man who is originally from Nigeria, but has been in the US 25 years.  He used to own a little specialty book store with African American books and gifts but the big stores and the internet put him out of business.  We had a lively discussion about Africa, the days news etc.  It was most pleasant as we agreed on pretty much everything.  It was well worth the price to meet such an interesting man

DR Cillaliz - Could you have opted to take the Blue Line in from O'Hare, and then take a cab from the CTA stop once you got downtown? Is the conference hotel not in or near The Loop?

A few days ago, I was lamenting the fact that I probably wasn't going to make it to Broadway (except the one in Tacoma), unless they might need an actor to play FDR in the next revival of ANNIE.

Then I got a phone call from a friend of mine who had received a Playbill from the Broadway cast of THE ADDAMS FAMILY.  And sure enough, I am currently the understudy for Lurch in the production, after making my Broadway debut in the revival of A CHORUS LINE.  Of course, they did manage to misspell my last name, but the photos turned out well.

The funny thing is is that I don't remember Tommy looking that good when he started with A Chorus Line. However, I guess all that "A-5-6-7-8!" did a body good. ;)

You photograph well, TCB. My face always inflates when the picture snaps.

I'd LOL, but I don't want to wake up David.

He then sent us an email using the dictation.  I think he LOVES his new phone.  I just remembered I can't get it cuz it won't fit in my pockets.

Ah! Did he get the newest iPhone 4S? If so, has he explained "Siri" to you?
