JMK, I looked for your post about Lost Horizon on the HTF board but could not find it.  I did however read the ravings of Mr. Joe C.  Perhaps some day, Mr. Executive Producer, you'll mention whether you liked the Nudie Musical Blu.   Finished West Side Story and am now watching something called The Conspirator.

DR John G did you go out for two dinners last night or out for lunch & dinner?
two dinners last night, two lunches and two dinners tonight. All in the name of research. plenty of leftovers, though.

And, here's my contribution to the HHW Carpet Photo Gallery, from the Lounge on the MS Amalyra:

Good thing you are on a river and not on rough seas.

Jane, did you say you were going to take a cruise to Tahiti; or are you planning to fly to Tahiti, and then take a cruise from there?

IN Tahiti.  We will fly there and cruise for six nights on the Paul Gauguin.  The cruise includes one night at the InterContinental Tahiti in Papeete in an Overwater Bungalow.  It should look something like this.

So, when do we leave?

My flight back was smooth and uneventful, and the sunset from my window seat was quite beautiful. Once I got back, I packed up the last "box o' stuff" I had here, headed up to my storage unit(s), and proceeded to consolidate everything into one unit. It only took about 20 minutes. :)

And...

Since I have quite a jam-packed day tomorrow, I went ahead and organized and packed my luggage for my trek back down to DC on Monday morning. -Which should give me time to take a nap tomorrow afternoon. ;)

DR Jose I will have to let Bryan know your friend is one of the owners of Vanille Patisserie.  If you return I suggest trying the incredible chocolate entremet or the caramel one.  Please find out what they are called if you can.  Photos, if you purchase, or not, will be appreciated.

The one I ordered was one of their Chocolate entremets. They do seasonal ones too. As for their specific names, you can always just give them a call and they will send you a listing of their current selection.

WSS the movie did not have an intermission per Robert Wise's choice, but there was an optional intermission that theaters could insert, but Wise did not want one.

I've been watching the Blu & DVD versions of the First Nudie Musical at the same time to compare. I am far from the experts that are on all the sites, but some random thoughts. Looked at various scenes to check colors

The colors pop more and the lack of scratches in the main titles is also evident.

The first big change on the Blu is the musical number The Lights and The Smiles. I love the golden hues that are have been added or were they always there?

Also I noticed that the end titles are shorter (or they go by faster) on the Blu than on the DVD. Are they different versions?

Made a couple of really good finds today. One was a bio of the musical "Lady in the Dark." I also found Barbara Streisand's first couple of albums on CD in a dollar bin. I had one on vinyl, but I didn't know the other. Both sound great.

I went to Union Station this morning to meet my friend Paul, who had a layover here on his way back to California from New York.  His train was almost 2 hours late.  We went to lunch and he headed back to the station.

I decided to see another show at the Shakespeare Theatre.  It's called "Murder for Two."  It's great--really funny.  It stars two guys--one plays a police "inspector" who's investigating a murder at a mansion.  The other actor plays all the other roles.  They take turns playing piano (and also play together).  It was a lot of fun!

Follies was going on at the same time.  The show I saw was over about an hour earlier.  I discovered that they were playing Follies (live) on the speakers and a couple of TV screens in the lobby and other floors.  I was lucky to hear Caroline O'Connor singing "Could I Leave You."

Since I had a big lunch  I didn't have dinner.  I actually took a nap instead!

I then headed back to the theatre to see Follies again.  It was another sold-out performance.  I enjoyed it just as much if not more than last night's performance.

My cousin's stand-up routine was quite funny.  A little cussing with his mom in attendance but no one seemed to mind.

This of course is pure poppycock.  The movie in its roadshow engagements was designed with the intermission - it played EVERY major roadshow engagement with the intermission.  What Mr. Wise said thirty years after the fact is suspect.

We used the credits from the internegative, which had the copyright notice replaced (the Paramount release had a Paramount copyright).  When we did the DVD we used a print that had the Paramount credits - they're actually the same exact credits, but when the interneg was recut they shortened one card down to about two frames - we fixed it as best we could but it's not the same length as the original.

All during the transfer we had the DVD up as a reference - the colors did more than pop on the new transfer - they were completely transformed into what they were when we shot the film.  The DVD is brown in comparison.
