I also remember how excited I was to see DR. COOK'S GARDEN show up on the ABC MOVIE OF THE WEEK, after having read about it in William Goldman's THE SEASON.

I am listening to 55 DAYS AT PEKING.  I think I'm up to about day 36.

Do any of you who are more or less of the same vintage as I remember a LIFE Magazine that featured photos from all over the world taken on one day?  Do you remember what that issue was called?  I'm doing a review and I need to have that info.  Thanks.

DR JMK - I'd been working on your question and gotten as far as DAY IN THE LIFE, but kept bumping into the Beatles song.  Guess my reference librarian skills are getting a little rusty!

BK, I assume you know there are two great CDs available of Komeda's score.  The newer one has a bunch of his demos playing the piano.  I'm pretty sure I mentioned it here a long time ago.

I've already cited The Beatles, was moving onto other media LOL.  Thanks, though.

Just by chance I had just gotten the huge new 75 Years of Life coffee table book (50% off at B&N!), which has every Life cover as an appendix.  Betsy was insisting the issue had come out in the last few years, LOL.  As it turns out, she was actually recalling a book series her parents had had.

This new Elmer Bernstein LP I got has the oddest interpolation into his MOCKINGBIRD Theme, a choral section that I don't believe is in any part of the actual score (I'll have to get the album out again and listen to it to make sure).

It's a bizarre little Lydian riff that is oddly reminiscent of THE SWEETHEART TREE.

The original score album on the äva label had a choral track.  It was done especially for that album.

It's probably the same track, then.  Were Ava and Mainstream corporately linked?

I think it's a matter of Mainstream buying the äva catalog.   IIRC, äva was a Frank Sinatra-owned label...named after Ava Gardner.

Is it the Main Theme with a choral "B" section?  That's what this one is.

Don't recall.  I believe the choral track was on the B side of the LP, however.

Ummmm......I'm pretty sure that LP is in storage.

If what you have  is on the Mainstream label, it's the same recording in the same sequencing.

No, I'm talking about the Bernstein "easy listening" album I mentioned several days ago that has him doing his own themes and cover versions of others (like MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY).
