I went to bed last night, but ended up staying awake until 4:00 a.m.  First I watched (or listened) to the Live at Lincoln Center New Year's Eve Concert.  They were doing an all Gershwin and Bernstein program.  They did CANDIDE and WEST SIDE STORY DANCES for the Bernstein and Concerto in F and the Rhapsody in Blue for Gershwin.  I was not familiar with the piano soloist, Jean-Yves Thibaudet.  Since I know little about music, I  should probably not comment on any parts of it, but it was a nice concert.

Then since it was after eleven, I fiugred that I might as well watch the Space Needle fireworks.  But after that, I could not fall asleep.

I adore Mssr. Thibaudet! And I was fortunate to be introduced to him via a mutual acquaintance a few years ago. He's very French, but also very fun and funny. -And he likes to wear red socks and sequined belts. ;)

For any DR who may have missed last night's New York Philharmonic concert on PBS, it's available for viewing on the PBS website for the next week.

And the word of the day is: LUMINOUS!

And The Song Of The Day Is:  MY SHINING HOUR

Mercer & Arlen! One of my favorite songs.
And Definitely One Of My Favorites-Especially With Frank Sinatra Singing

Love the Ella Fitzgerald version, though just about anybody singing it works for me.

I'm a fan of Ella Fitgerald's version too. In fact, her Arlen Songbook albums would definitely be among my possession on that proverbial desert island.

Well...

I think I'm going to take a break from the shredding tonight, and resume it in the morning. I was thinking of heading up to DC for the day tomorrow, but since tomorrow is supposed to be a major travel day - everyone heading from after the holidays - I don't want to be on the highways. So, I'll head up Tuesday instead. I need to "inventory" whatever clothes I still have at my brother's place, and see what I need to send back up to NYC, or just store there until I'm back there in the Spring for The Music Man.

DR TCB, if my calculations are correct, factoring in the time difference you were falling asleep about the time Richard and I were leaving for Lima this morning.

Can't have anything with carbs for three days. (My medicine would interfere with whatever they gave me before the CAT scan.) So, it's dinner of chicken wings with truffle salt tonight and maybe some cucumber. Boring, but hopefully good.

I just submitted, on line, my solution to today's NPR Weekend Edition Sunday puzzle.  Richard and I hear that segment every Sunday on our way to Lima and this is the first time I've been able to solve the challenge.

That Puzzle is the primary reason why my alarm clock is set to go off at 8:30am on Sunday mornings. -And then I got back to bed around 8:45am. ;)

OK, I give up - 5 hours of sleep is NOT enough and that's about what I got last night.  Cannot stay awake much longer - 'night!

Back from a lovelier than lovely New Year's Day party at Barry Pearl's.  Lots of nice folks there.  I mostly hung out with Kay Cole and her husband, photographer Michael Lamont.  But I also chatted with director Sheldon Epps, Don Petrie, and many other nice folks.  Heard many nice comments about Outside the Box, too, so that was fun.  Of course, episode five will be going up tonight after midnight.  I suspect the upload process will be much quicker and smoother with this here new computer.

Then I came home and did some more writing.  Astonishingly (never happened before) I have written twenty-two pages today.  Normally on the beginning of a new book I'm thrilled if I get to five or seven.  I think on There's Mel I did ten, which was astonishing back then.  But I could not stop and I'm truly getting in the swing of it now and having fun.  I just hope it's interesting but I won't know that until I give the first set of pages to muse Margaret, probably next week.  I don't really need to write this many pages a day - normally, the first week of a book I do about forty to fifty pages over seven days.  I suspect with this one I'll be closer to one hundred at the end of the first week, but we'll have to see how it goes.

? ? ?

I'm watching the "Monsters Are Due On Maple Street" episode on THE TWILIGHT ZONE.  The electricity has gone out and I swear I heard one of the characters say, "I can't get hold of anyone on-line."

I'm watching too.  Maybe they said "on THE line," as in a phone line?

Yep... No shredding tonight for me.

Instead I've been double-checking some schedules, entering things into iCalendar, and checking out theatre tickets, flight itineraries and hotel reservations. :)

Good evening.  Went to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo tonight. It took 5 movies to de-stress me this weekend, but I think I'm finally there, just in time to research and write a brief tomorrow.

I was surprised at how much I liked this version of the movie, maybe better than the Swedish version

And speaking of "The Twilight Zone"...

The Complete Series is the current Gold Box special on Amazon, either in the "regular" DVD or Blu-Ray. Guess it will stay up for a few more hours.
