I find it interresting that now that we are into Awards Season, they have shifted the focus of the trailers for J. EDGAR. When it was first released, I don't remember the trailers mentioning J. Edgar's speech problem. Now you would think that the film was in the same category as THE KING'S SPEECH.

I think it depends if you want warm weather or not. Personally with so much cold weather during the year i would 1000 times more rather take a warm cruise than visit Alaska (also depends on if Alaska interests them).

Summer in Alaska isn't exactly igloos and fur parkas. The weather in Anchorage and Fairbanks is very much like Seattle.

No, I don't like her in everything, but the recording of her final performance of "Rose's Turn" in "Gypsy" is, IMHO, reason enough not to dismiss her.

We hiked in jeans & t-shirts. I did begin with an extra layer that ended up around my waist. I also bundled up to watch the ice calving.

I guess I didn't find the column quite as negative about Merman as you did. It seemed to me a bit more of a put-down on the production on live TV, the changes made from the musical, and the combination of Merman and Sinatra.

There was only one Ethel Merman, but let's face it; crowds didn't flock to see her because she was a sex symbol. She was a true original, and it is doubtful there will ever be another.

Speaking of NY, I didn't mention that at Sunday night's performance of Chicago, there was a medical emergency and the show was stopped for about 5 minutes while the EMTs took the patient to the hospital.
