The opening bell of today's American Stock Exchange was rung by the current Miss America.

That reminded me that I miss the likes of Bert Parks, especially singing that iconic song to each newly crowned queen.

Here is a clip from 1976's pageant finale with Bert pouring it on at approximately 1:30 into the clip.

DR TCB re: the snowfall. I don't actually know how much snow fell.

But for future reference i think 1 inch is 2.5 cms. So i think that makes 15 cms = 6 inches.

In the middle of the night there was probably a foot or so of snow outside on the deck. This morning, it's all more or less gone, with torrential rain and winds replacing it.

It is always the same story, every single year, with Portland Public Schools. They under-react the first day of a storm, as they did yesterday, when they really should have just cancelled school. Then the second day, they of course over-react. So today we have two hour delay despite the fact that almost all of the snow is off of the streets (there's still some in yards, at least at this elevation--my hunch is there's not one whit of snow further down).

So far, so good. Basically.

They got everyone on the new aircraft pretty quickly since the flight is only about half full. Of course, La Guardia being LGA, by the time we were able to get in line to take off, we were number 20 in line. So, 40 minutes later.

However, even with the delays, we're only due in STL an hour later than originally scheduled. Not bad at all.

Loved Parks' cameo in "The Freshman." I still laugh thinking about his singing about the komodo dragon.

Speaking of Newt and his party, I am trying to start a grass roots movement to counteract this stupid ongoing attempt to poke those of us with left leaning tendencies by using the noun Democrat as an adjective, simply because it sounds "wrong" and "grating" and therefore, in typical Frank Lunz style, works subliminally to create negative feelings about the DemocratIC party. So I hereby request any D's who encounter R's who use that terminology to simply pronounce the R party as Re-PUBIC-lan. Maybe that will wise a few people up.
