Well, you've read the notes, the notes were big and scary and had their moments, and now it is time for you to post until the big scary cows come home.

Good morning, all! I had a very long night's sleep and I believe it has restored my good spirits and equilibrium. I have quite a bit of work here, and around noon I will wander down to the NYPL at Lincoln Center for a brief visit.

That's my day.

I have to begin my taxes, too.

TOD: I had a scare near the beginning of the recent guide book that I had lost everything, so I decided that point to store everything in my Google account in a documents file, so that it was there and available no matter what computer I was on.

Sadly my local HMV store is closing down this week. The company is struggling and one wonders whether they will be trading at all in the UK by the end of the year. I mainly visit there massive store in Oxford Street and I would hate to see that disappear.

Jose - What is the dress code at the Landmarc?

It looks pretty elegant online, for dinner especially.

This just happened to me. My hard drive started getting bad sectors and in those sectors approximately half of my ITunes music was on there (10,000 or so). Went to my backup drive and found that it fell on the floor and it was broken.

Went to the Apple store and bought a time machine to see if backing it up would somehow retrieve the lost music. Didn't help.

Went to a computer store to see if they could retrieve the data from the broken backup. Nada. Back to the apple store to see if they could retrieve the music. They couldn't. The bad sectors doubled in size.

Back to the apple store to see if they could help me retrieve my music from my IPod which had most of the music that was important to me. All the Academy Award nominated songs. Spent the last three years collecting. They wouldn't do it.

Later found out it can be done via various different programs out there. (That's why WOULDN'T do it)
I was able to retrieve almost all the songs from my IPod.

Brought the laptop in for a new hard drive, battery and repair the optical drive. That's why I was not on here for three weeks.

Now I have the task of uploading 10,000 or so tunes back to my computer.

TOD:

The scariest thing that ever happened to me was the time I turned on my desktop and the power supply immediately shorted out with the sound of a gun shot, a shower of sparks and a plume of smoke.  Fortunately, neither the hard drive nor any of the other internals were effected.  But it took over two weeks to have the power supply replaced by Comp USA's computer maintenance.  After that experience, I've done all my hardware repairs and upgrades on my own.

TOD - when I was an adjunct faculty member for Miami University I was also consulting for a school library vendor and writing a leaflet for them.  Pretty far along in the process, I went to my office computer and my next-to-final draft seemed to have been eaten.  I actually felt sick to my stomach, but the university's IT guys were able to rescue it for me.

DR Jane, I've seen all of the episodes of UNFORGETTABLE. But it was a repeat this week. Was she on last week? I don't remember a character by the name you listed. What was her role?

So, Rick Perry is leaving the race. That means he's coming back to Texas. I don't know that that's a good thing.

My favorite comment on him is still the one that said he looks like a retired underwear model.

These computer stories are scaring me!!!

Doesn't APPLE have a word processing application?  Or is it easier to use Microsoft to be compatible with others?

BK,

I think that your scare certainly takes the top prize.

My only "significant" computer issues have come about when I get a new Mac and discover that some of my favorite sonftware has been discontinued.
