Mega-violent storms wracked the area through the night and swept over the house with great force. The lightning just sizzled for hours outside, while the thunder roared. The bird was very scared, so I had to calm him for awhile. Needless to say, not much sleep was had last night. Now, I need to find out what happened. There had been a tornado warning until 5 a.m.

Good morning, all! Back up at 6:30 after a night of dreams about working at Barnes & Noble and getting into a fight with a difficult first floor manage who's still there and a dream involving Richard Rodgers and me at a concert with Mary Martin.

Today is a repeat of yesterday primarily: Herbert recording notes and DEAREST ENEMY. I did not hear from Ron Raines yesterday, since I expeccted to, so perhaps I will today.

Thanks for the nice comments on the blog yesterday. I was flattered that Doug Reside, who handles that service of the NYPL, asked me to do it. Bruce Pomahac thinks I have a book there. We'll see.

More and more my local coffee shop is resembling a mother's meeting place. Young mothers with babies and young children congregate and sit and chat for hours on end leaving little room for everyone else. Sorry to be a curmudgeon but I don't want infants bawling into my ear when I'm trying to have a relaxing time reading the newspaper and drinking a coffee.

DR CILLA LIZ - working in theatre in a college town, DePauw in Greencastle - I have found that the theatre and music people there, students & teachers, are a great resource....and very very good at what they do.

Oftentimes they are either on their way to a fine career and enjoying life after a fine career and are happy to share what they know - more often with people in the community than students who sometimes can be apathetic or downright hostile.

Why would you bring your children to Zumba class and not let them bring a book or a DVD or something to entertain them for an hour? They will sit for 15 minutes at the most....and then they are up and running around.... Last night we had FOUR little girls who were most irritating....but they had NOTHING to do!!!

Oh my. I watched an Alfred Hitchcock Hour last night titled DEATH SCENE that featured a very very VERY handsome young James Farentino - I had forgotten how strikingly handsome he was.....and then this morning....this:

Norris was 33 when he played the 18 year-old leading man of BABES IN TOYLAND. He was short, about 5'6," perhaps less. He's about the same height as Mabel Barrison who played his sister. He did several silent films, including the Marion Davies WHEN KNIGHTHOOD WAS IN FLOWER, he was one of the three stars (Peggy Wood and Charles Purcell the other two) of Sigmund Romberg's MAYTIME. He died in 1929 at the age of 59. His last role on Broadway was as Merlin in Rodgers & Hart's A CONNECTICUT YANKEE.

Charles Purcell, incidentally, played the romantic lead in DEAREST ENEMY for Rodgers & Hart.

We had the same storm up here in Austin. Actually, it was a "tornado watch".

About 3:30 this morning, there was a marching band on my roof, and ever member had a bass drum.

Plenty of rain and lightning!

It continued until about eight this morning.

I've never seen anything like this in my 3 years in Texas.
