Got to go out this evening to meet up for drinks so I will definitely be wearing my hat with the ear flaps which covers practically all of my head!

Received the Blu-ray of SPELLBOUND but I don't think it was worth the upgrade from the DVD - of which I preferred the higher contrast. I'm going to be much more selective about the need to upgrade my DVDs. Something like CLEOPATRA is worth it but too many have only a marginal difference and it's not as if I watch the same film over and over again.

I was also a bit underwhelmed with SPELLBOUND but of course I was mocked and derided.  ;)

"Love Story" -- I was in the Navy and attending a school in Bainbridge, Maryland in the fall of 1970.  I had been in boot camp all summer, so if there had been any noise about this film, I hadn't heard it.

I drove into Baltimore one fine Saturday morning and putzed around, shopping and checking out the lay of the land.  The road back out of Baltimore was littered with roadside shopping strips, including one that had a movie marquee you could read a quarter of a mile before you got to it.  This marquee indicated a major studio preview that night (and not late, either).  Curious, and never having seen a sneak preview, I pulled into the shopping strip.  There was a restaurant where I had an early dinner and then I stood in line for the preview.

The preview was "Love Story".  I had not heard of the film's having been made (which is odd to me now, because I used to be on top of stuff like that).  But I was mesmerized by the movie and charmed and swept up in it.  I wrote a friend that weekend telling him what I saw and what I thought.  One of my thoughts was that it was going to be a huge hit.  Funny enough, I got a letter from him early the next week (before he had seen mine) and he had previewed the film and found it "light" on importance.  He figured it would do middling business and disappear.  He didn't like the Lai score, either.

Go figure.

I have the complete collection of Ben Bagley on CDs including the four that were pulled his label because (as I understood it) that he wasn't paying royalities. He was just distrbuting them.

I am now reloading them to my ITunes. It's a lot of work.

The more I think about LOVE STORY, the more I remember liking it....and of course it was a HUGE hit.  Ryan O'Neal was very good and Ali was okay......

Today - the IRS is scheduled to mail my paltry Refund Check - half of which will go to pay my Indiana State and Local taxes.

I'm surprised that some DRs who love musical theatre were not interested in at least trying SMASH.

On the one hand, I can sit back and nitpick SMASH to pieces.  But on the other hand, like DR Jose has said, it's just a TV show.  And I do like Debra Messing, Anjelica Houston and Meagan Hilty is growing on me. As long as the drama and intrigue and characters hold my interest, I'll be watching

Wednesday morning afternoon greetings!  After 4 consecutive days of away-from-home commitments, I had a bit of insomnia last night that resulted in a sleep-in 'til almost 11am.  I'm taking it slow today and glad to be able to stay home for a few days.

Got to go out this evening to meet up for drinks so I will definitely be wearing my hat with the ear flaps which covers practically all of my head!

NOT my next knitting project.  Actually this is crochet and I'm not sure I want to try to learn that, too.  Speaking of knitting, I have a pattern for the Ali McGraw Love Story hat.

I have two reasons for not watching:  Katharine McPhee!

It's on directly opposite CASTLE, one of our household's absolute favorites.  I'll watch SMASH online.
