Watched Tony Bennett on Rosie tonight.  I can almost forgive him for winning a Grammy over Barbra for the umpteenth time!

Beef Ribs in the crock pot all day.  Can't wait to eat them soon, with mashed potatoes and string beans, with hot chocolate with CINNAMON BUN marshmallows that I found in Target today.  I can't WAIT!!!

Lunch with Miss Ryan cancelled - that's kind of her m.o. and I expected it.  I had a sandwich and fries, picked up some packages, came home and did some work on the computer.  I'm going to Musical Theatre Guild's Little Women tonight - only because proofer three will have the manuscript with her.  I truly cannot stand the score to Little Women, Astonishing being one of the worst theatre songs ever written and the whole score is like that.

I'm still having trouble forgiving him for being a total bore when we saw him at the Greek Theater.

He's also been quite disparaging about Percy Faith, who gave him hit after hit after hit in his Columbia days.

Well, time to leave for rehearsal.  It's our first time with costumes.  Fortunately, I have a lot of time between any costume changes that I have.  And all I have to change are pants and a jacket...very easy. :)

I just don't know when to change.  I guess I'll find out tonight.

Until later!

In reality I should thank Tony Bennett.  Had we not thought he was talented we would have missed the incredible Dionne Warwick.  I have a feeling he wasn't happy that his opening act was loved so much by the audience while his reception was lukewarm at the best.

Oy--first REBECCA, and now this:

Paramount is looking to adapt Alfred Hitchock's "Suspicion" and has tapped Veena Sud of AMC's "The Killing" to direct and pen the script, with Montecito Pictures producing.

The original film, based on Francis IIles's 1932 novel "Before the Fact," centered on a dowdy young woman (portrayed by Joan Fontaine) marrying an irresponsible charmer (played by Cary Grant) despite the strong disapproval of her wealthy father -- and then beginning to suspect that her husband plans to kill her. Fontaine won a best actress Oscar for her perf in the 1941 feature.

It's the first feature gig for Sud -- the creator, executive producer, showrunner and writer for "The Killing," which was nominated for six Emmys last year, including Sud for writing on a drama series. The second season of "The Killing" returns April 1.

Sud's previous TV credits include executive producing CBS's "Cold Case" and writing for ABC's "Push, Nevada."

Deal for "Suspicion" comes on the heels of DreamWorks and Working Title Films announcing plans for a remake of Hitchcock's ''Rebecca'' with "Eastern Promises'' scribe Steven Knight writing.

Montecito is also in pre-production on "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of 'Psycho,'?" based on Stephen Rebello's book. Anthony Hopkins is attached to star on the Fox Searchlight project. Montecito produced last year's romantic comedy "No Strings Attached" for Paramount.

Sud is repped by CAA. Her attorney is Bruce Gellman of Felker Toczek Gellman Suddleson.

Watched the film version of "12 Angry Men" this morning and am watching the TV version tonight. The TV version is shorter, but it's, in some ways, more interesting because so many of the roles are cast against type. The guy who played Danny Reed in "Holiday Inn" is just this ugly, fastidious man in ways that are much more interesting than E.G. Marshall. And while Henry Fonda is better than Bob Cummings, Cummings is another one who's quietly affecting. And Franchot Tone is more buttoned up and internal than Lee J. Cobb. Maybe I just like seeing another cast handle the roles all so differently.

While I wait for dinner to heat, I'm listening to a Broadway concert from some time in the past with Barbara Cook singing half a dozen songs from "Porgy and Bess." Dang, but it's wonderful, whether she's Bess, Porgy, Sportin' Life or the goat. Well, she hasn't taken up the goat's part yet, but she should have just recorded the whole score.

This concert has gotten better. Cy Coleman came out and played a suite of "Sweet Charity" songs, then introduced Randy Graff, Judy Kaye and Lillias White, who performed "Old Friend" from "The Life." And Lillias did her showstopper, "Oldest Profession." Barbara was back to sing "Vanilla Ice Cream." Karen Ziemba did a bang-up job with "Ninth Avenue, Goodbye" and now in a strange bit of casting, Lou Diamond Phillips is singing "One Night in Bangkok."

In honor of today's TOD, I think I'll watch "Steamboat Bill Jr." next. I doubt I'll be sleeping again tonight, so the movies keep rolling.

Right now, Randy Skinner and, if I heard her name right, Karen Crews are recreating Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell tapping to "Begin the Beguine." Love that song.

Show has ended with Nathan Lane doing "Rose's Turn." Could have been either funnier or better acted, but it was good.
