Seems that lots of people forgot about SMASH last night (myself included--MAUDE reruns again)

I'm afraid that SMASH is not must see TV for moi.

SPOILER Alert -- potential spoilerage if you haven't watched last night's show!

Last night, I thought better of my stubborness and watched the show.

It went nowhere...but it did offer Debra Messing singing a tune at a piano with her friend.   Yikes!

End SPOILER Alert!

I'm up.  I fell asleep at one, and at two I was awakened by the intermittent beeping of the hall smoke detector, which needs a new battery.  Why, please tell me why, do these things ALWAYS happen in the middle of the night?  Never in the morning or the afternoon or even the evening.  Last time I tried to change the battery myself, I broke the unit and set off the alarm, so I'm not going anywhere near it.  I put tissue in my ears, closed the bedroom door and finally fell asleep around three-thirty.  The Handyman will be here at some point today to attend to this and I'll have to work outside or in the den because it's so annoying.

Watching the second half of "Marie Antoinette" this morning. Great performances and certainly a great looking movie, but I'm not won over by it.

Is this the Norma Shearer one or the one that Coppola's daughter(?) made?

On my way to the market, I stopped in the restaurant where Charlotte is waiting tables and we set a date for ONCE: next Friday night, March 2. I came home, bought the tickets and we're in the center orchestra in Row L, on the aisle. i am so excited to be seeing this again!

Great news about Once.

It was the Coppola version.

I think even the people who'd decided that Smash was the best show ever done have figured out that it's bad.  But still they post "But I get to see B'way people" like that's a reason to watch a bad show.  Are they still trying to spin the ratings on this thing?  They can't say it's a smash in the ratings because it isn't, so they just talk about some demographic age group that spans fifteen years.

Here is one of the knitting projects I have going.  It's a sampler scarf and I'm learning a lot of new stitches, most recently cables, which are not as difficult as they look:

That's beautiful.

Thanks, DR John G!  Now, I'll have to buy a coat to go with it...

Smash Isn't Department:

NBC has won its third straight Monday in key demos on the strength of a dominant performance by "The Voice," but the net is getting less help from "Smash," which lost another half a ratings point in its third outing and placed third in its second half-hour.

It will, I believe, continue to decline.  Why?  Because soap opera or not, they miscalculated in thinking they'd get the Glee audience.  Glee appeals to a much wider group because it's not specifically about one musical being prepped for Broadway, it's about school.

And the beeping will not be fixed until the late afternoon, that's my guess.

Whilst trying to fall back asleep with tissues in my ear, I sang the following: Will you stop that beeping 'cause it's keeping me from sleeping.

We have a hardwired smoke detector that has gone off twice on extremely windy days when we've had a fire in the living room and gusts of wind have pushed little wisps of smoke back into the house.  It's most annoying, because there's absolutely no way to turn it off.

We have defaulted to not having fires in that fireplace on windy days LOL.

I just received a screener for a film I have never, ever heard of, despite it having a rather interesting cast.

I have made acauldron of chili. Because I like beans, It's full of dark and red kidney beans and smells quite deelish.

On the SMASH front, seeing it again last night after missing last week made me realize that I would continue to watch it. I'm enjoying it. Last night was full of soap opera twists: stolen notebooks, eavesdropping on confessions, the beginning of a blackmail subplot. I wanted to yell at the composer, just as I did at BK, I told you to fire that assistant! I like the cast, so far it reflects for me a usual backbiting backstager - and my worst experience of that was the Houston Grand Opera in 1991 - and I'm having a good time.

I really loathe Twitter; while I folow maybe 8-12 people, I am getting tweets from the entire fuckin world; I see no way to contact anyone about removing this unwanted situation or getting help from Twitter with any question.

Ugh, Regis Philbin is on "The Talk" today and that's reason enough to change channels.

Variety has SORT of peg on SMASH and its troubles.....except for the part about Messing being a good comic actress who radiates likeability......
