I was  very sad to wake up to the news that my # 1 favorite Bollywood star, Dara Singh passed away today at age 84.

It was news that I was expecting as he had suffered a cardiac arrest on July 7th and I had been following his progress, or lack of, in the news all week. Yesterday his family brought him home so that he could pass away peacefully with his loved ones nearby. Still, it saddens me very much. He was the person I most desired to meet when, and if, I ever get to visit India, and he is one of the main reasons I love old Bollywood movies so much, particularly the "stunt films."

Dara was a professional wrestler who became popular after starring in the hit film KING KONG (1962).

He made mostly action films, including some science fiction, sword and sandal, James Bond/espionage pictures, and mythologicals. Here is a look at some of them.

RIP Dara Singh saab.

And just when he got old enough for you to consider dating him, too! Life is so cruel.

Thanks DR ELMORE and DR MBARNUM.....we shall see what we shall see.

DR MBARNUM - the pants in powder blue were not a pretty sight.....well maybe they were in 1982...but not today.

So sorry to hear about Dara Singh - I have seen some of his work sent to me by DR MBARNUM - and he was a lot of fun to watch.

We've had a whole morning of GLEE!  One more show choir, then we're off to northern KY for lunch.

DR ELMORE  I hope you get your delivery dilemma unscrambled.

I cannot choose my favorite song on the ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS cd....although I am partial to "Bangers and Mash" and "Oh My Luck."

Vibes for your friend, JRand.

And break-a-leg vibes for your opening night.

Sorry, MBarnum. Those are the type of Bollywood films I would like to see more of, but the library just carries newer titles.

The guy in the middle:  Surely he's Nick Nolte!!!

The other two look vaguely familiar, but I can't place them.

Oh wow, i envy you, getting to see Nutty Professor develop, Cilla!  It sounds like so much fun.  Is it expected to come to New York?

Sounds like it, but I only know that from what I hear on the internet, not from any inside source.   There is a funny clip from a press conference yesterday. I'll post it later

Thanks for all the wonderful birthday greetings.   Despite very little sleep last night worrying about my brother, I'm having a good day.   Last update was about an hour and a half ago.   He was still in surgery but everything was going well to that point.

And I have finished my draft for the recording schedule. Everything depends on the "star" playing George Washington now!

From DR John G:
Quote
Advance copies of my book arrived today. It is strange to hold in your hands something like that, something you worked that hard on, and see your name on it. A quiet thing, as the song says.

This is beautiful.
