Patti LuPone and Debra Winger in David Mamet's play!

Boy, would I love to be a fly on the wall backstage for that production!

Would the language be worse on or off the stage?

DR Mike - Wasn't "Dreamers" recorded by Sarah Brightman on her "Songs That Got Away" disc?

I treasure this recording... it's part of the soundtrack of my life at the time

We only had about 80 people this morning, but it was pretty good group overall. Next up: UPTAs in Memphis, and then Spring SETCs in Louisville.

-But first: Vacation (Boston, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Chicago, THE MUSIC MAN back at Arena Stage and a visit to San Diego to visit my brother, his wife and Baby Grace. *And it seems like the HHW Vibes worked their magic again. She's being "patient". :)

That would be cool! Guy could call in his part on bk's iPhone if he happens to get caught in traffic.

And it's Monday.  I apologize for being E&T, but it's been a tough week.  Legally Blonde is up and runniung and already seems like a huge success.  The only thing that's still an issue is the balance.  We are working hard at making it work.  It's a loud show, nothing too much you can do with it.

An older patron came down to the pit yesterday and said "we can't hear the singers", I replied "We are all working very hard to be sure you can hear the singers"  She said, "What can you do about it"  I replied again, "We are all working very hard to be sure you can hear the singers"  She said "We see plays here all the time and this is the worst when we can't hear the singers, we have never had this problem, what are you going to do about it?"  I said, a little bit more terse.. "We are all working very hard to be sure you can hear the singers"  She said "You don't have to get upset about it".  I said "Ma'am, I have said 3 times that we are working on this issue, I don't know what else to tell you"   She said, "Well, I'll going to find someone that can fix this, or I'm asking for my money back"  I said, "Fine".

Then I turn around and my rhythm section is just staring at me.  I said "Thanks for your help guys"  :)  The quiet, kind hearted guitar player said "F**king unbelievable"....

I noticed that the ladies that were complaining had assisted listening devices.  I should have told them to take them out of their ears during the songs.  Who knows what they are actually hearing.

And I'm done....

TOD:

Hopefully, there will be a rendition of  "Quiero La Noche" included in the Marvin Hamlisch evening.

With real gunshots...

Matthew, I'm in San Antonio, and I couldn't hear the singers. Should I file a complaint with PayPal?

I enjoy the movie version of HARVEY a lot, but I have a few problems with it.  The movie hammers into the ground the idea that Harvey actually exists with all those doors that open and close by themselves.  And the prolonged scene at the bar with Elwood, the Doctor and the Nurse seems to belong in another movie.  But the performances are all wonderful and are what really make the movie enjoyable to me.

I have a special affection for HARVEY.

It was the first stage play I ever saw.

I was 5 years old, and it was the national company with Joe E. Brown.

My big disappointment (back then) was that the rabbit never appeared on the stage.

I did my usual thing of spot-checking the HARVEY disc the other day, and it is one gorgeous looking Blu-ray.  I also thought that since I hadn't watched the film in, who knows, maybe 30 years (!), that I'd have a great time doing so, even though I suspect that by the latter parts of it I'm going to find it a little bit "much" somehow.

Now, as a kid, I loved it.  But for the adult me, it's going to be the level of sentimentality or uber-earnestness that will grate.  I am, for example, one of the few people who does not care for IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE.  And PRIDE OF THE YANKEES.  There are parts of these movies that are perfectly fine and enjoyable, but in the end, they are too cloying for the likes of me.

I've never seen it on stage, but would happily do so sometime just to try out a different take on it.

DR Jose the people who make the salad dressing make both a Walla Wall & Vidalia.  I much prefer the Walla Walla, but then I think they are by far the tastiest onions to begin with.
