I really just wish they'd leave me alone and quit trying to bully me into working for him.

I've never heard of this with any candidate.  Is it common where you live?

She lives in Iowa. It's common.

It's also starting get bad in Northern Virginia which has basically becomes it's own "swing state" over the past couple of years, well, decades.

So...

After I left Top Pot Doughnuts, I walked around a bit and took care of some "busy stuff": banking, buying an ORCA card for the busses/trains/monorail, etc. Then it was over to Pike Place Market...

When I walked over to Pike Place Market and saw the iconic neon signs, I began to wonder if I had ever seen them when I lived here before, if my parents had ever taken us down to there. I'm guessing they did, but I guess at the age of nine my foodie sensibilities had not yet been sparked, so... In any case...

I started off by walking the Market: floor by floor, row by row, stall by stall. The smells of fresh bread baking, the scents of cinnamon and coffee roasting, the calls of the fishmongers, the buskers playing and singing... It was pretty amazing. I didn't really buy much when I was there, but I did scout out a couple of things, and, hopefully, I'll be able to make my down that mental list over the next two and a half days.

And, yes, I did stop into the first Starbucks. I didn't buy a cup of coffee, but I did stop in and take a picture of the PLAQUE.

Oh...

I my Breakfast (Part 2) was a serving of The "World's Best" Mac & Cheese from Beecher's Handmade Cheese. Beecher's has a great store and cafe and restaurant in the Flatiron District of NYC. It was great to check in on the home office. :)

Had some amazing cheeses last night from Texas. From Brazos Valley, which won best brie in the country and also the second place winner. We had both. Spectacular.

Tonight, it was porchetta, in the style of what we had eaten in Italy. Wow. Rotisserie pork loin with herbs and pork belly on the outside. Happy.

What a coinkidink! I ended up having a porchetta sandwich from Salumi - which is "related" to Mario Batali. - His father makes the salumi and his sister runs the jernt, and her husband is the chef. The sandwich was molto delicioso!

*I also got a meatball on the side with a slice of smoked mozzarella. Incredible!

DR JohnG - The next time you make it back to NYC, be sure to check out Sara Jenkins' place in the East Village: Porchetta

The sandwiches are incredible, and the roasted potatoes with burnt ends are one of my favorite not-so-small meals anywhere.

After pigging out on pig... ;)

I headed back to my hotel, picked up my bike (literally), hopped on a bus and took it over to Electric/Folding Bikes Northwest to get it fixed, adjusted. The guy said to come back in an hour, so I checked Yelp! and found a coffee place nearby: Dutch Bike Co. Cafe.

What a cool space! "Beers - Bicycles - Wine". And they also have a full service restaurant next door. I had an espresso and a salted chocolate chip cookie:

YUM!

And once I got back to Folding Bikes West to pick up my bike, the guy just walked it back out to me, I took it for a spin in the parking lot to check it out, and when I walked back in to pay for the repair...

-What do I owe you?
Oh, it was no trouble. Thanks for coming in.

Oh...

Pumpkin Cake Glazed and a Bavsrian Cream.
The diabetic thanks you for this verbal sugar-induced coma.

And all I could think of this morning was coconut custard pie.  :)

DR JohnG - Just in case you needed the visual aid... ::)

Great news about your bike, Jose!  Sounds like you're having fun

I'm having a lot of fun. And I can really tell that all the biking I'm doing is helping to balance out my culinary indulgences and then some. In fact, some of the pants I brought are already feeling a bit loose and/or fitting better. :)

I'm also glad that I purposely planned not to plan much of anything. I basically walk a few blocks this way, a few blocks that way, talk to some folks, get some recommendations and take it from there. No stress, no lists of things I "have to do". However, I am building quite the mental list of things I want to do the next time I visit.

Not that they're on my diet, but I'd have had a pumpkin donut and a lemon-filled...

It's all cool.

My parents are going through a similar thing in Richmond, but with calls from the other side.

Actually, I believe the woman at the counter gave me a sour cream one instead of a pumpkin one this morning. I'll be sure to get the pumpkin tomorrow. And maybe even a lemon-filled. :)

Watching "Amadeus" for the first time since I saw it in the movie theaters. Not as good as the play, but fun.
