thanks, Elmore. I forgot Pere Goriot, which we also read in ninth grade. A favorite.

As for "Silas Marner," I think they assign it because it's short and has a kid in it. But it ain't for kids and it's probably my least favorite Eliot, after "Scenes from Clerical Life."

while i was waiting I wandered out tot he sales floor where a nice young man tried to convince me to turn inmy car for the newest model

The only think I like about it was that it is a little lower to the ground which would make it easier for the elderly lady I drive from church and for my parents to get in and out of the car but overall I just didnt like the design of the interior

Saturday night we had an Oktoberfest at our church - Das Oktoberfest war wunderbar!

The Pastor's wife cooked dinner for all 150 of us --- bratwurst, hot german potato salad, spaetzle, homemade red cabbage,schweinbraten,mushroom gravy, pretzels (the big hot soft kind) and beer (non alcoholic)

We had a huge blackforest cake and there was a dessert contest-- it had to be german based deeserts --- oooooooooh it was lovely

Autumn is really progressing here, totally unlike last year in which it lagged several days behind its usual schedule and never did develop much peak color. I've been terrible about taking pictures lately, but I should capture a few things for your viewing pleasure.

The problem with so much of the classic literature that we endure in high school isn't that's bad, but badly taught with this shroud of academic mummification around it.
