HA!  Carol Burnett used to tell the story of the time she was doing a musical review at a New York Club....she had become sort of the toast of the town singing "I Love You, John Foster Dulles" - she had to do a quick change, and one night while she was singing, she was getting much bigger laughs than usual.  She looked down and realized in her quick change....in the dark.....she had put her nylons on backwards with the seams in the front.

Sorry, one more about Du-par's.  I was looking for something on the Miracle Mile location I recalled from my first year or two in L.A., and found this lovely postcard (which also shows how the other jernts used to look).  Isn't that deco facade to die for?

My mother often talked about working for the USO in Alaska during the War.  Since nylon stockings were not available, she said they would often paint lines up the back of their legs.

Quick interlude after the morning book signing at the farmers market and the afternoon choir concert. We sold close to two cases, which was all we had, so we stayed around and just enjoyed the outdoors. Beautiful morning, sun felt healthful and healing. And we met some very nice people, too.

Plus, I got some watermelon radishes at the market. I love those, and the supermarkets never have them.

I am finally watching the 2010 BBC adaptation of BEN-HUR, and I am quite enjoying it. I love Alex Kingston and I'd wondered where she'd gone since ER wrote her off.

She's also been a recurring character on Doctor Who.

I think I'm up.  I was up at about five, which was really six, and fell asleep about seven, which was really eight, and woke up at ten, which was really eleven.  Somewhat sleepless night so I have not a clew as to how many hours I actually got.

BK, this almost sounds like a song lyric.  You could write a song about Daylight Saving Time and how annoying it is. ;)

Hi everyone - report on last night.  Everything went well.  Had some mic issues that we solved half way through the evening.  I played a lot of things.  Sang things like "Laughter in the Rain", "Copacabana", "A Song for You", and stuff like that.  DR  Laura, I thought I had your song, but realized what I had was something with "Anne" in the title.  I'll search for your song and let you know when I get it in.  I'm back tonight from 5:00-9:00.  It's a fun gig.

I'm pleased that all our East Coast DRs have come through Sandy and your lives are getting back to normal. You were all in my thoughts and prayers. May you see the end of this soon!

I've been dealing with some tricky health issues. The whopper migraines continue. It took me three days to get over the last one. I lose some of my vision when they occur, and last time I don't think I got 100% back, so reading is a bit of a strain.

My acupuncturist has some techniques that I'd not heard of. She implanted six tiny seeds--"ear seeds"--in my right ear. So far they're been quite comfortable. We'll see if they help my back problems.

And, would you believe that I am without heat? It's no hardship, as our weather is now back in the 80s, but it's a bizarre story. Last week I noticed what looked like little bits of charcoal in front of the wall heater. On closer inspection I saw that one was actually a whole burnt into the carpet. Apparently the pilot light (the heater was off) spewed this stuff out! The pilot light is off now, and a heating contractor came by, but he's a little slow, so I'll wait until the Gas company can come out to check it before we turn the pilot back on.
