Walked to the car this morning (earlier than usual, because I had a lot of work to do). And I discovered someone had smashed in the rear window on the driver's side. What a way to start the day. It took an extra hour to get it replaced. Ugh. Ugh all around. Am running around like crazy now. But I needed a two-minute break just to get revved up again.

OH NO! John G I am so sorry to hear this

How did I miss this post earlier?  Sorry, DR John G!
Thank you both. Just money I would have spent on unnecessary things like phone bills and electric bills.

Does your car insurance cover it?   I know it covers chips in windshields with no deductible

The apple fritter isn't frittery enough.  Not by a long shot.  They make a great donut and glaze, etc., there, but this doesn't touch the good California fritters.  Nevertheless, the few things I picked out for myself are incredibly delicious and satisfying.

You know what you hardly ever see here?  Bear claws.  Maybe that's more a California thing.

Rightly or wrongly, I seem to associate good bear claws with former supermarkets Hughes and Boys Markets.

Maybe it is a West Coast thing, because we have them in Washington, also.  Oh, and also the pastry version.
The French version of bear claws are available at the French bakeries here. A little lighter on the almond extract and more emphasis on the butter with an almond note.

Kentucky has this delicious fried pie with dried apples that they do in winter. Just wonderful. Now you've made me hungry. Oh, wait. I'm conscious; that explains it.

Do tater tot casseroles always have ground beef in them?  I like ground beef. But the idea of the casserole sounds more appealing to me without the beef.

The beauty of makjing your own casserole is you can put anything you want in it :)

I'd just never heard of a tater tot casserole till a few days ago. So not sure if the ground beef is a common ingredient.

I always use ground beef, but didn't someone else mention chicken?

Home from school.

Yesterday, I went to the storage unit and went through all of my sheet music and pulled out things to scan into PDF's for my playing gig on the weekends.  I use an iPad for all my music, so everything is portable.  But the scanning that I have to do is probably more than I want, oh well, it's all good.  It was like Christmas shopping in the storage unit.  I found some things that I forgot I had, etc.

I just learned from today's dinner experience that we have absolutely no decent take out Mexican restaurants on the Upper West Side!

We used to have a great one.  I miss it.

Vote away - we're currently in third place but all it takes are votes.  Tell your friends.  Anyone can vote.  Yes, it's a silly popularity contest and those with the largest number of friends voting win - but why not play?

Juliana wrote me to thank me for making her act.  Melody's mother did not and I guess that's par for the course right now.

I never joke about five minutes ago, DR TCB.

Excellent movie.

Does anybody know who the Alan Arkin character was based upon?

Yes, my tater tot casserole had chicken (and bacon)
