I never much cared for Twinkies when I was young.  Preferred Hostess cupcakes (preferably served on a platter a la the Ann Blyth commercials).

Now, I'm not supposed to eat Twinkies. Cholesteroal, dontchaknow.

Why is it that I'm now craving a package of Twinkies?
I never cared for Twinkies, but a Sno-Ball, now that was something special because it had coconut on it. It didn't matter that the arm rest of my chair probably tasted better than the rest of the Sno-Ball, the coconut made it.

My favorites were Suzi-Qs.  I recently (well, within the last couple of years) discovered orange cupcakes.  They are delish...but no more. :'(

I am back from LINCOLN, which is quite an amazing film. It's much like 1776 in that the film is essentially about the last four months of his life and the necessity of passing the 13th ammendment in the House of Representatives. Like the Declaration of Independence, we know it will be passed, but the suspense hangs over the film until the vote is accomplished. The Kushner screenplay is literate, funny, and very moving; the casting excellent; and the art direction and camera work brilliant. I may see this again on Thanksgiving day.

Yes, the musical film of LES MISERABLES is being released on Christmas day. I saw a wonderful preview. I also saw preview for the new Naomi Watts-Ewan MacGregor film about the 2004 tsunami that looks really excellent. In the 15 minutes before the film I watched commercials for Disney World, Sprite, Sears, the History Channel, and God knows what else. If all these damned sponsors are advertising in movie theatres, why the fat hell ismy ticket so goddamned expensive?

I love both the orange and chocolate cupckes. I suppose they will be pcked up and "improved" by another vendor, but I must admit I love them exactly as they are.

I will miss the Hostess Yellow Zingers.  There's a clone of them out there already, but of course, not the same.  And what about the red zingers with the coconut....

My thoughts exactly.

Thanks, again, DRs George and John G!  I think he's more chipper than I am at the moment.  Of course, he slept most of the time we were at the hospital and I fidgeted.

And on a sadder note...Lucille Bliss, Voice of Smurfette, Dies at 96.

Quote
Television icon Lucille Bliss died at the age of 96.

You may not know her face or even her name, but Bliss had a career in movies and television that spanned 60 years. Her achievements included voicing a slew of cartoon characters in movies and on television, including the star of the first animated program produced specifically for TV, “Crusader Rabbit.”

However, a new generation of fans became familiar with Bliss when she became the voice of Smurfette in the 1980s cartoon hit “The Smurfs.”

Other roles included the voice of stepsister Anastasia in Disney’s classic “Cinderella,” as well as the original Elroy in the 1960s television staple “The Jetsons.”

The Los Angeles Times reports that Bliss died a week ago from natural causes at an assisted living center in Costa Mesa, according to the Orange County coroner.

When I first moved to Middletown, my boss Mrs. Brown and her husband drove me past there and Mr. Brown said, "You need to find some handsome fellow to take you there for dinner."  I did, and that handsome fellow and I have celebrated many special occasions there, including our 15th wedding anniversary.  We will miss The Meadows as much as we miss Mr. and Mrs Brown...

My friend Laurie is telling me I never likely ate there, and since she's from Middletown, I believe her.

I do recall the Lakeside Inn.

I only went to the Meadows a few times, but I liked the food. I'm more upset over its closing as the death of one more standard of the presence of class and intelligence in Middletown goes abandoned. Soon it will be a town of nothing but bikers, bars, and tattoo parlors.

I haven't seen LINCOLN yet, but the Austin Statesman film critic gave it a B-.

I don't understand this guy.  It seems that every movie that national critics rave about, he gives a "thumbs down".
