Too many things came in at the library today. The first episodes of "Wallander." The British "Pickwick Papers" and "The Hunger Games," which is what I'm starting with.

Well, it's time to go to the theater.  Tonight's our official opening night!  I don't know how many people will be in the audience, but if it's anything like "Goodnight Moon" earlier this year, they'll have the theater filled.

Be back later!

While I was out today I stopped at Best Buy to look at the iPad Mini again.  I was tempted to get one to see if I like it better than the Nook except they still don't have any.

I then went to Barnes and Noble where they corrected many of my problems.  I could have done so myself if I had a clue how to do it.  The people who sell them no more than the people in customer service.  If they improve the quality of the iPad Mini to match Keith's iPad 4 I might switched down the road.  For now I'll keep the Nook.

When I came home Keith had purchased a B & N book to read on his iPad with his Nook App.  He isn't happy at all using the Nook app, not that I blame him.  He told me I had better read the book we now share so that he didn't "suffer" for nothing. He didn't really say suffer. :)

Finished addressing cards and early packages last night.

All will be postmarked Dec. 1, 2012.

Ron, were you always this organized with your life, or is this something that came from being in the military?

Back from my haircut and errands, one of which was dropping off a favorite sweater at the dry cleaner.  The clerk had such a tough time spelling my last name that I wonder if I'll ever see that sweater again...

Back from the editing room.  We made quite a few little changes to episode three - his first cut was excellent, but we made a few shot changes in all the musical numbers, which helped wonderfully, and we had to cut almost thirty seconds out of the set-up scene to get it under seven minutes - but it plays at that length really well.

Then we ran into snags trying to burn the DVD - the quality was appalling.  Don't know why.  I just burned one here and it looks better certainly and that's what I'll show this Sunday.

Helms Bakery to Re-Open in Culver City Next Year

Nice!!  Just before my time, but that beautiful sign is a sight for sore eyes.

It seems L.A. in general is uniquely protective of its signage.

From "The Hunger Games" to "Elf." I'm sorry, but I don't get the appeal of Will Farrell. Is it generational? Or is it like not getting Jerry Lewis?

Yes. Someone I like even less than Will Farrell.

Just ran the two DVDs I burned and funnily the compressed looks a little better, so I'll show that on Sunday.  But we're going to do a new uncompressed and compressed version early in the week just to be sure it's all what it should be.  The guy who usually helps the editor do that part is out of town and the editor gets confused sometimes as to what button to push when.

I remember thinking both of them were funny on a few Saturday Night Live appearances people showed me after the fact (never watched it regularly through those years), but I find their movies absolutely horrible.

It's odd because the rest of the cast of "Elf" is wonderful, from Bob Newhart and Ed Asner to James Caan and Mary Steenburgen. And the script is fun.

I hope the restaurant is good even if it really doesn't have Helm's doughnuts.  It would be fun to go there.

TOD:

CD - THIS CHRISTMAS - yes, again, while doing a little decorating last night.  And btw I sold a copy -- friend will be placing her order later today.

DVD - HOLIDAY INN - just out of curiosity, watched the Legend-colorized version.  Oy!!!  This was entirely experimental, of course, I'd never seriously watch any such thing.  But it's just crazy for anyone to think that, even if colorizing a particular piece of film might be desirable for some bizarre reason, that it can actually work.  I doubt it can ever be made to work.  Even if managing flesh tones can someday be figured out, since that challenge kills the whole idea from the get-go.  I could go on.  Oh yes, how I could go on.  But that's enough energy spent on this subject.

BLU - Tonight's pleasure will be GYPSY, straight through.

More later, no doubt, as there's always plenty to ketchup on.

My dad had the idea of doing a sort of reverse "Wizard of Oz" with "It's a Wonderful Life."  Have the first part of the movie in color (colorized) when George Bailey is "alive" but when Clarence makes him never have existed, change to the original black and white.  Then colorize it when he becomes real again.  I actually bought a colorized DVD to try and do it, but it was copyguarded and I couldn't record it to my DVD burner. :-\

Your dad should send the idea to Ted Turner, since Ted is the king of colorization.
