DR elmore when doing a search on the unabridged version you suggested I noticed you said I could not have read the unabridged version in 2 days.  Considering the speed & non stop reading I did back then I doubt another 200 pages would have made much of a difference. :)

I do not recall ever making a comment about reading the unabridged novel in two days an impossibility or whatever I supposedly posted..

I don't know the details, but she was born in Germany during WW2, so I guess that an unwed mother with children from different fathers was not all that unusual. :-\

Was her father's first name Adolph?

Oy!  BK's neighbors must have spent weeks secretly planning and coordinating all of that, and then it backfires right in their face.    :o

OK, so I don't think this priest should be opening his mouth too much. From Rawstory.com:

A Catholic priest in Italy has created a firestorm by claiming that women bring violence on themselves by serving cold food and dressing provocatively.

I know it isn't Wednesday, so we can't Ask BK, but we don't have a Ask GH (Guy Haine) Day.  So, may I ask if Mr. Haines has ever thought of recording the Main Theme from LOST HORIZON?

Whoa!   :)

I do not dislike that idea.  No sir, I don't.

Thank you Chas.  But you still lost me on that other post.

On Christmas Day I learned that my cousin Marion and her husband have both passed away. Marion and I had not been close in recent years, but she was the link to the part of the family that I was close to.

Jeanne, my condolences to you and to your family.

Thank you, George.

Was all set to make Moroccan Meatloaf for dinner tonight, but the ground beef didn't thaw, so I'll guess I'll have whatever I can scrape up in the fridge.

Does Moroccan Meatloaf contain goat eyeballs?
Nope, but it has lemon juice and fresh ginger in the meat. And a spicy, harissa-like sauce on top.

Fine, but that doesn't sound very Moroccan to me.

This is funny because I didn't remember either but I saw it when I searched "unabridged" to find the version you had suggested reading.  There is was in the search:

DRJane, if you read the UNABRIDGED version, it would take more than 2 days, ..

The above quote came up for January 29, 2005  ;D

DR Jeanne, that is very sad.  Were they in an accident together?  Even when we don't stay close to certain people their passing can hit us very hard, especially those we grew up with.

No, not an accident. Several months apart. I don't have all the details yet.

That is extra hard to hear the news so far after it happened.

The last time my parents visited my mom's family in Germany, she found out that her father had died a couple of years before that.  She actually had never known her dad and was never was told that he was even still alive.

George, a similar thing happened to me. I grew up being told that all of my grandparents had died. When I was in my twenties my mother told me that her mother was still living and she wanted us to visit. I was unable to feel any love for someone I'd never known at all, someone who I thought was dead. I felt cheated, too, because I would have really liked to have had a grandparent when I was growing up. I chose not to visit (it was out of state), as did my mother, though I never knew her reasons. If this had happened when I was older I think I would have at least phoned and tried to establish a connection, but I had no interest then.

My mother didn't talk much about her father, mostly because she couldn't find him.  She couldn't even find he had died or where he was buried. :(

I can only imagine what living in Germany was like during WWII. George, have you read THE BOOK THIEF? I think you might enjoy it, especially given your family background.

And gay little boys seduce innocent priests.

It happens more often than some people would care to acknowledge, George. It happened in my family and it's still considered a dark ugly secret to those of a different, older generation.

Yes, scandal was a big deal in those days and things were hushed up. I suspect that was one of the reasons for my mother's estrangement from her own mother.

He seems to be doing okay, but he is getting older.  He sleeps more and more.  I prefer to think he sleeps more because he is getting older, rather than the possibility that I am boring company.

SICK to hear about Junior's.  Sick of this happening.  Everywhere.  And I'm getting sick and tired of saying how sick and tired I am of it.

I feel the same way. So much has been lost. At least Junior's is trying to reopen. I hope they succeed and will be watching for them.
