I, too, look forward to THE WELL-DIGGER'S DAUGHTER. I have to keep a window open to Netflix whenever I'm reading the Notes or posts.

Sometimes I miss having NetFlix.  On the upside, Keith has been recording numerous old movies we didn't used to watch.

I'm seriously thinking about dropping Netflix.  I just don't watch enough to justify the monthly price.  They're definately making money off of me.

And me.  I have probably had these two movies for six months.

Why was I the last to know that Jaymes, part of the Chippendale's dancer duo competing on this last season's The Amazing Race, was gay? No mention was made during the show, but still everyone I know already knew.

He was one of the nicest people I have ever watched compete on this show, I must say.

Which one is gay Jaymes? Since they both have the same name I never knew which was Jaymes and which was James.

Gay Jaymes is the one with blonde hair whose dad has cancer.

Too bad.  I think the other one is hotter.

I'd take either one. :D

You have to get past Mr. Barnum first.

Good morning, all! I slept poorly again and so I slept late this morning. I had a long dream that had my parents and me involved in some way with a summer theatre but all I remember is my giving my mother the keys to my Gremlin and telling her that I needed to take their car and they could follow in mine when they were ready. And I was wearing a light blue shirt.

I think I will go to the New York Public Library today. I have some questions for the Theatre Division and I cando a bit of DEAREST ENEMY sleuthing.

DR cillaliz, I would go with the Norman Denny translaton that Penguin publishes. It's a recent one and I'm sure it will be much more entertaining than some of the morestilted 19th century English ones that Oxford University Press and other presses reprint. I've ordered a copy of the Signet/New American Library translation; it's a good, recent translation and it's the one I read about 15 years ago. I'm thinking about reading it again as well as THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO (only good translation by Robin Buss). I've also got another copy - I have no idea where the first one went! - of the recent ANNA KARENINA translation.

More coffee!

Thanks Elmore, this helps a lot.  I've never actually read Les Miz, The County of Monte Cristo or Anna Karenina. I almost hate to admit that, but I think I'm going to remedy that soon.  Right now I'm reading the End of Life Book Club.

Well, if you decide on MONTE CRISTO, the Robin Buss translation is absolutely superb, and the novel is an amazing epic I've read twice and am ready to begin again.

I think that's the one I got, I'll have to check

Now I'm even more confused ;)

From DR elmore:
The only decent complete and unabridged translation is the one  from New American Library/Signet, new translation by Lee Fahnestock and Norman MacAfee.

Are you suggesting the Norman Denny translation over the unabridged version by Fahnestock & MacAfee?

The version I purchased (Hapgood translation) I chose because it was formatted for Nook and says it is unabridged.  Nook now has the Denny translation.  Reviews on this complain about problems with the format.

It is all very confusing trying to figure if I'm getting the best eBook or not.  DR Cilla let me know if you decide to purchase a new translation than the one you have.

I got the Denny because it was mostly complaints about the table of contents not working or something like that.  Anyway, it was something that didn't concern me and it was what Elmore recommended

I'm up.  I was up at seven, actually.  Last night, I put my car away at ten in the evening.  I realized the gardener hadn't come and hence the trash cans hadn't been put out for Tuesday pick-up, which was obviously Christmas.  And they hadn't come yesterday.  I looked up and down the street - ten at night - no trash cans anywhere, so I figure they're not coming until next week or something.  At seven, I hear the fershluganah trash truck, blocks away, mind you.  So, I get up and take the two trash cans out to the curb.  And EVERY DAMN HOUSE'S TRASH CANS ARE OUT THERE.  When exactly did these cretins put them out - at midnight?  At six in the morning?

LOL-probably.

I put mine out very early in the morning because they don't get to my house until noonish

I'm pleased to hear of DF Sharon's progress. Three months is a long time to be in the hospital, even if it's rehab. It's great that she feels up to company; clearly, her spirits are good.

Yes they are.  She still hasn't looked at her missing arm...not sure how she's managed to do that.  She said she isn't ready yet

I would like to read THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO. I will leave The COUNTY of Monte Cristo to Cillaliz. May I assume that she uses the word "county" on many legal documents?

LOL!!! I think my fingers just type county without thinking about it

I recommended the Denny because the other translatin isn't available, as far as I can see, for a Kindle. I trust Penuin Books and I'm sure the Denny is qute fine. I honestly didn't know the Denny existed when I posted the comment about the Signet edition.

The only Bollywood he can speak is "You Tarzan, Me want." And I'm sure he still screws up the grammar.

Yeah, but she still died the day after Christmas and her funeral is the day after New Years.  It won't be an easy time of the year.  She was 95 1/2 years old

Nooks - Kindles - oy! I just checked Barnes & Noble, and the Denny LES MIS and the Buss MONTE CRISTO are on Nook Books. The nook site is different from the Kindle and you need to get the translator on to the search engine. Of course B&N is pushing their editions which are 19th century public domain ones.
