The brisket turned out to be an unmitigated, absolute and total disaster. So tough as to be uneatable. It's a good job I did plenty of vegetables!
Too bad. I don't cook brisket myself. And I have one I have to smoke eventually -- one of the tests of becoming a real Texan.

I could eat Texas BBQ every day of my life.

I, on the other hand, am up. Boy did I sleep and boy did I need to sleep. It's kind of in-between outside - gray, not gray. It's sixty degrees here in the house, so heat is on and heating but it will take an hour to warm up the jernt, therefore I may just go jog.

I'm watching a Bell Telephone Hour compilation of Christmas programs. Florence Henderson is the hostess. Her over-the-top diction is amusing me greatly. She sounds like the valedictorian for Miss Julianna's School of Elocution and Dramatic Arts.

My last load of laundry is in the dryer. Thinking about going to SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK. I considered Life of Pi, but it's gone already. That's fine, I wasn't that excited about seeing it and I really don't like wearing 3D glasses.

The good news is that we are doing very well for the Kritzerland show a week ahead of time, which is a relief. The less than good news is, although I don't REALLY care, is that there's no way for us to win that B'way World popularity contest award as the Titanic one-nighter has too many people involved in both the show itself and the membership of the company that did it - no way to fight that and that's all this is about - how many people you know who will vote and tell their friends. We had a cast of nine for our show - they close to thirty - and we have no membership group of heaven knows how many. It would have been nice to use it in our ads, and I do thank everyone for voting, but there's no real way to catch them now. Every time we go up a percent or two, they send in thirty people to get them back where they were. The only thing that will change anything is if they voted multiple times from the same computer - those votes will all go away.

I was very upset to see about the lawsuit without knowing the astronomical amount. What did they expect the school to do, and teachers gave their lives trying to protect children.

The writing is pedantic, but the ugly nature of the comments is such that it makes me think she struck a nerve with her observations.

I found her comments interesting and I found myself agreeing yet disagreeing with her observations. Yes, the images do harken to perceived stereotypes, yet the story takes place in the 1800s France, when women were still looked down upon. Also, the movie and the musical also take into consideration small slices of the larger story. I have read the book and found it to be fascinating. My background is media studies so I am curious on portrayals and how the support or challenge perceived stereotypes.

Two other books have also been dramatized on screen and they are Manon des Sources and Jean de Florette. These two books address class, social structure and perceived stereotypes based on gender and social class.Jean de Florette is an excellent book but a bit long in the tooth in spots. I often wonder if the storytelling is as cumbersome in spots in the original French text or of if it is the way is was translated from French to English. REturn of Martin Guyere is a curious movie.

During the 1990s, the local PBS channel used to show foreign films late nights on Friday or Saturday as a way to make foreign films more readily available to the prairie region. Over the years I have seen the following films: My life as a dog; Fanny and Alexander; The REturn of Martin Guyerre; Manons des Sources; Unter Solen; Un Mauve Taxi; Au Revoir, Les Enfants; Emigrante (Swedish film based on Moberg's book); and many more that I can not think of. Ironically, after seeing some of the films, I read the books they were based on.

It's a funny birding movie. It's not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination, but they definitely do a lot of birding. I think I saw it on HBO. I liked it

I did get a PT job but it is only for a few hours a week. It is better than nothing. It is working in a safe home for troubled youth. I work mostly overnights and do the cleaning and stuff. I don't mind. I am a bit of a night owl. I have been fighing a vicious cold I cannot seem to shake.

I have also been in contact with some new found cousins. Jobhunting continues.
