New Year's morning greetings!  I'm all decked out in my Michigan swag in preparation for the Outback Bowl - Go, Blue!  Meanwhile, I'll have the Tournament of Roses Parade as background while I pack & post.

Happy 2013!

I've made the bed, picked up and tossed the junk mail, changed the calendar, sent my 12-31 invoice to the Man from Philadelphia, and prepared my shopping bag of 2012 receipts so I can begin the tax prep tonight.

Now I'm ready for a nap.

Good morning and a very Happy New Year to all!

I planned on coming home from work, catching a short (snort) nap and then staying up to see the New Year in.  I didn't think that would be a problem as there was a quite lively party next door--just out side my bedroom window.   Well, I've often said that when I'm sleeping you could set off a cannon and I won't wake up.   And I didn't. It was 7 PM when I started my "nap" and I woke up at 2:45 AM.  I slept though the whole thing!

My New Years dinner is cooking as we speak.  The same but different--pork and Sauerkraut but this year I'm trying it the way my niece Marie makes hers.  Mine was just Sauerkraut and pork with some brown sugar.  Marie said she does the same but adds beer, sliced apples and onions.  I'm giving it a try in my slow cooker.  I will let you know how it tastes later.

TOD:

I'll be doing New Year's Day in my typical manner by going to my sister's house for a pork and sauerkraut dinner.  While we also celebrate my niece's husband's birthday we keep it at a low key since everyone is pretty much holiday-ed out.

I just finished making a batch of my Whole-Bulb-Of-Garlic dip.  The original recipe included four bulbs of garlic but I've cut it down over the years.  It packs a punch but I often get request for it.

Sounds good. And healthy.

I've spent the last hour listening to "Eileen" while making paths through the kitchen. There are now uncovered work areas and a few appliances have gone back to their rightful places. It's a start. (It always seems to be a start, never a finish.)

I have the Mummer's Parade on but the comic divisions are currently performing, which has always been my least favorite part of the parade.  I'll start up the DVR before I leave for dinner to record the String Bands and Fancy Divisions.

I did not make it to midnight last night. In fact, I was in bed by 8pm. I have had a bad cold the last two days, so going to bed early seemed like the healthy choice.

Of course,  I woke up at 4 am...so, got up and watched a movie I had DVR'ed called BLACK WIDOW starring Van Heflin, Gene Tierney, Ginger Rogers, and Peggy Ann Garner. Afterwards I went back to bed.

Today I will likely sit around and watch some old movies unless I start to feel better, in which case I will do some laundry and possibly a little bit of much needed house-cleaning.

It is nice and quiet here today.  I am reading a book I got at the Goodwill titled SING OUT LOUISE about Broadway....most entertaining.

I just took my first "taste" of my new way of making my New Years dinner and it is very, very, very good!

I'm sorry your not feeling well, DR MBarnum.  I must have been more tired than I thought last night.

It is freezing here this morning. Not literally. I guess my blood has thinned because the 50s now seem cold to me. I usually spend New Year's Day getting organized for the new year. That's what I shall work on today. Then take a walk in the afternoon.

I don't recall ever going to a movie on New Year's Day, but that sounds like a very good plan to me.

I've been through my receipts, separating them in the various categories:
  *Rent
  *Utilities
  *Insurance: Health/Life/Apartment
  *Income/Tax payments/payouts
  Travel: subway/taxi
  Travel: out of town
  Postage/Fed Ex
  *Subscriptions/Memberships
  *Equipment/Supplies
  Books/Music
  CDs
  DVDs
  Promotion/Donations

The ones starred are pretty much ready to be tallied; the millions of tiny MTA and taxi receipts sit in a huge pile at the bottom of the bag along with restaurant receipts. All the receipts for Books, CDs and DVDs are currently one big pile of rceipts from Amazon, eBay sellers, etc.  That's a huge dent in the chaos of my receipts, so I'm starting ear;y this year. I'd like to have the rceipts ready for my accountant by Feb. 1.

Watched Black Widow on Sunday. Wasn't it fun?

I was trying to decide what to read as my first read of  the year. I wanted it to be something really good. I decided on Lisa Gardner' new book Touch & Go that comes out next month.

I am up and have written the first five pages of a new book.  I got up a little later than planned, about 10:45, but it took me a while to fall asleep last night, because my head was a jumble of thoughts about different projects for this year.  But I got a good night's sleep, feel good, and jumped right into the book as soon as my vision and brain were clear.  It's cloudy out, but I think I will try to do a New Year's Day jog.  Then I may write another page or two, although for the first day I'm always thrilled if I can do three to five pages and I've done that already.
