Good morning, all!  TEXAS CHAINSAW 3-D was the big grosser this weekend. And this is why the wonderful little GUILT TRIP is floundering.

I watched the new "Box," which had only a few moments where I laughed. I didn't find it as funny as some of the more outrageous ones, but I liked the cast, Kay's staging, and there are a couple of really really good tunes that I liked very much. So, i'm going to digress here for a second: why is it I find so much current popular song, as well as jingles written for commercials, to be so unmelodic and performed by so many offpitch singers? BK's episodes are full of melody and good musical theatre performances. What is the problem with these morons preferring limited ranges, limited tunes, and often very limited performances?

I am off to Toyland!

More coffee!

In that vein, it is so nice to be learning BARNUM, with real music, real melody and orchestration, and real

Totally agree about BK's music and arrangements and performances.  Including the extra touches like the delightful "Chinese" parallel fourths in the accompaniment.  And nothing's ever overdone or underdone.

I can hardly believe it.  Yesterday morning I posted my usual regret at not being able to see the Kritzerland show, typing (all the whilst thinking of the exact, correct song, I assure you) "Sunrise, Sunset" instead of "Matchmaker, Matchmaker."

Anyone here who was paying attention must have thought:  "Wha'.....?"

I simply thought I'd skimmed over a reference to "Sunrise."

RE: posting the link for Outside the Box

I do think that posting the link will get more people here to view it right away.  And also mentioning when it goes up.

Truthfully I must have missed the mentions in the notes. Because last night when it was asked why no DRS had watched the new episode I didn't even realize the new episode had gone up.  So I definitely think it helps to give the link once the episode is up (since i don't visit broadwayworld and maybe other DRs don't either and might forget to check for new episodes).

I liked the episode. But since I've never seen Chinatown the references were lost on me.
I am curious what is the age demographic on broadwayworld?  I mentioned a few weeks ago about doing current spoofs. Or even from the 90s on. I would think their demo would be younger (could be totally off). And was just curious if the references were getting lost on some people.

BK, I think you're a really funny part of the videos!

Greetings from Toyland! The building's super tells me that the jewelry company across from us went bust. He also told me the black water rthey were dumping in the drains was residue from jewelry polishing and manufacture. Ugh.

OK, this Portuguese dish will not likely appeal to all, but I'm seriously jonesing this morning on the sounds of a sandwich featuring ham, sausage, roast beef and cheese covered in a gravy made with beer, port and butter. I may have to make this soon.

Monday afternoon greetings from Norwich Cathedral!  We've had a full day and are now enjoying a short break until the Evening Prayer service.  After that, we are invited for drinks at the Precentor's home before dinner in the Refectory.

Been thinking about this.  Following upon what DR Jennifer said, I also think what happened this time -- at least speaking for myself -- is that we're so accustomed to having the direct reminders and the link spoonfed to us (like the adorable little DR infants we are), that the mentions of it being shown at the Kritzerland show somehow made it seem as though it was being previewed for them; i.e., that they were seeing what was to be released to Broadway World the following week.

Or something!  Not making excuses.  But for what it's worth, that seems to have been my own lazy train of non-thinking thought.   :)

I'm up, I'm up.  I am so wired after these shows I didn't fall asleep until four.  So, I've had about five hours of sleep, but that's fine.

We did do Sunrise, Sunset as our Encore - we always end the show with something the audience sings along to.

I'm glad they know the lyrics to that. Apparently, on a recent Jeopardy, the three thirtysomething contestants didn't answer a single question/answer on Broadway lyrics. Questions such as "The lusty month" or who's looks are laughable, unphotographable.

Re the Outside the Box comments today, which I'm enjoying.  Even though some of them are indeed more outrageous than others, my intention always is to write them as if I were really writing a musical of the source material.  Some lend themselves to more outrageous treatment (The Miracle Worker, Ben-Hur) and some don't (the current episode) - but it's almost the ones that don't that make me happiest, and seeing the new episode with the audience last night was fantastic.  The set-up scene got great laughs, as did the first two numbers.  The final song really only has three laughs and they're not huge - the accompaniment, and the two references to Chinese food, but a friend at the next table leaned over to me after the final song and said, "That's such a good song!" and that, for me, means I succeeded in my goal.

And so far, only Peter Filichia, who sent me a really nice note about the episode (he really liked it a lot) noticed the very intention reference in the first number to the opening number of Merlin :)

We put the lyrics on a piece of paper and each person has it at the table.
