I needed a bit of laughter this morning.  Last night I found out that Sherlock's brother Boz lost his battle with the kidney disease.  With all the tests they ran, including a biopsy, they couldn't find out what caused this.  Since he was a Canadian champion and the father of several litters they fortunately were able to rule out this was genetic or cancer.

Rarely have one these days, though, because I don't know of any places around here that make one I'd consider really good.  But since I haven't really sought them out, I wouldn't know.  So there you are.  Or rather, there I am.

It is a rather recent develepment, DR George. Older DVD recorders can record any channel, but most newer ones cannot bypass the anti-recording signal thingy...which I didn't find out until replacing my old machine.

I am trying to decide where I will stay on my next (hopefully in April) trip to Los Angeles. I have always wanted to stay at The Mayfair Hotel. It is so classic..and cheap...but reviews are terrible.

I am not that picky, usually, but several reviews talk about people's feet turning black due to  walking on the carpet barefoot. That just doesn't sound good.

Some of the other hotels that I would love to stay at are waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of my price range.

The academy vote 5 songs again this instead of the embarrassing two songs from last year. I've been listening to them all and quite an interesting collection of songs. Very different for very different films.
Before My Time from Chasing Ice. (A Documentary sung over the end credits)
Suddenly from Les Miserables (Oscar bait. A new song written for the score)
Pi's Lullaby from Life of Pi. (Sung in Tamil!)
Skyfall from Skyfall (The only song I believe made the charts)
Everyone Needs A Best Friend from Ted (a very 50's/60's style song)

One first hearing I like Pi's Lullabye the best even though I cannot understand the lyrics. My second favorite is Everyone Needs A Friend. I would have love to hear Seth MacFarlane sung the song as Brian from Family Guy. My third choice is Before My Time.

Skyfall and Suddenly are my least favorite. With Suddenly getting the #5 spot

All of the motels on Ventura Blvd get bad ratings, also. That would be the most convenient area for me to stay, however, and it seems so Perry Mason-like.

The place in Burbank that I stayed at last time was inexpensive but was waaaay out past San Fernando Blvd and I kept getting lost everytime I went someplace.

I do have an offer to stay in Encino for a few of those days with a former Miss USA, so I will probably do that for at least one or two nights. And I love her dog, so that will be fun to have some canine company.

We are expecting a hard freeze starting tomorrow and lasting until Tuesday. That is unusually COLD for the desert.

I found 22 monarch caterpillars and brought them inside. Last week I knew I had 6.
