I thought Ben Affleck should have been nominated for best director.  I knew the ending of the story and I was still in suspense and was worried that maybe I had forgot how it really ended.  It takes a good director to do that

Yes, great movie about the Iranian hostage crisis.  Six people got out when the embassy was taken over and hid out in the Canadian Ambassadors home.  This is the story of how the CIA attempted to rescue them.

Tonight I watched Beasts of the Southern Wild.  It was ok, but I'm surprised it's nominated for best film.  It's available to rent.

First patty melt I ever had was at an International House of Pancakes.  Love at first bite.

I think grilled onion is traditional, but I always remember having it raw on the Hamburger Hamlet's patty melts.  Which worked beautifully for me, but I'll take 'em either way.

I like the sweetness of the grilled onions, I think it goes well with the rye bread

That almost makes me want one.  You don't see them on menus very often anymore, at least I don't.

Other than my own trials, OJ is the only trial I really followed closely.  I met some of the defense team before the trial and most of the rest of them afterwards.   I read 24 books about the case.  Interestingly enough they were all different.  I like Jeffrey Toobin's the best , if I remember correctly)

Toobin's books about the Supreme Court have been wonderful.

I am very pleased to say that all this talk of one of my all time favorite sandwiches has not made me hungry for one.  Which is a good thing for my diet

Did a little channel surfing this evening and landed on THAT THING YOU DO.  I have never once seen it all the way through, and tonight I just caught the scenes shot at the Ambassador Hotel, which are just heartbreaking.  And you want to know what killed me the most about it -- assuming it was the real thing, or a very good re-creation of it?  I'll tell you.  The coffee shop.  Remember when hotels had coffee shops?  Just beautiful.  A coffee shop to die for.  And from the looks of this coffee shop, they probably served a pretty good patty melt.

I am very glad I got my flu shot early this year.  They are becoming scarce now and lots of people are sick.  The stomach flu is going around too  I've been lucky so far.

Then I saw the Oscar noms.  I don't know why Druxy is surprised at the non-nomination for Mr. Hooper - whatever one thinks of the film, Hooper's direction is AWFUL.  And the film would NOT be up for Best Picture if they hadn't made this inane rule that up to ten films could be nominated.  When they did that, whatever last vestige of Oscar interest I had flew out the window.  If there were only five slots, it would be a much different story.  What's really interesting is the difference this year between the DGA noms and the Oscar direction noms.

I disagree with that.  If there were only five Best Picture nominees  I think Les Miz would be at the top of the list.  It is exactly the type of film that the Academy loves.

I needed a bit of laughter this morning.  Last night I found out that Sherlock's brother Boz lost his battle with the kidney disease.  With all the tests they ran, including a biopsy, they couldn't find out what caused this.  Since he was a Canadian champion and the father of several litters they fortunately were able to rule out this was genetic or cancer.

I am very sorry to read this, Jane.  My sympathies

All of the motels on Ventura Blvd get bad ratings, also. That would be the most convenient area for me to stay, however, and it seems so Perry Mason-like.

The place in Burbank that I stayed at last time was inexpensive but was waaaay out past San Fernando Blvd and I kept getting lost everytime I went someplace.

I do have an offer to stay in Encino for a few of those days with a former Miss USA, so I will probably do that for at least one or two nights. And I love her dog, so that will be fun to have some canine company.

Was she Miss USA when we still were 13 Colonies?

How cool!  Ben Affleck won Best Director at the Critic's Choice Awards.  He started out by saying, "I would like to thank the Academy."

Well, I'm still at work. But I'm FINALLY leaving.  I've been working on our fiscal year rollover and I HOPE that a new option (just one little check box not available before) will do what it seems to indicate that it will do.  If it does, this will be the easiest fiscal rollover ever!  If not, it'll just be the way that I expected it to be...slow and cumbersome.  We'll see.

I'm going to (hopefully) come to work early tomorrow and test it.  I just remembered that it can easily be tested, but I didn't think about that until now...when I NEED to leave.

Anyway, I'm outta here!
