Good late - VERY LATE - morning, all.

Cats not only got me up earlier than usual, but once up, there was:  No internet.  This was due to some "major event" that (Comcast hastened to assure me) was "unplanned".  But here it is now, and here I am.

The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (Slightly flawed because of studio cutting. One day the whole version will show up)

TOD:

Many years ago I read all the Holmes stories and greatly enjoyed most of them, but a couple of favorites were the ones that take place in the U.S. -- the Gold Rush one and isn't there one around Salt Lake City?  Oy!  You can see how much of it I've retained over the years.  It's a little embarrassing.  I have one of those big annotated sets and every time I glance at it I vow to reread them all.

As far as films go, I'm even more delinquent.  There are many I haven't seen.  With such scant experience in these matters, I'll fall back on Rathbone as my standard Holmes, but definitely Cushing, too, in BASKERVILLES.

TOD - I am not a big Sherlock Holmes fan, but I am married to one.  Of all the SH we've watched together, I don't think I could tell one story from another.

TOD:

Fav Sherlock film:  my own 1983 version of HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES with Ian Richardson, which Leonard Maltin called: "The best version of the Doyle classic to date."

Fav Sherlock play:  my own THE EBONY APE...followed a close second by CRUCIFER OF BLOOD

Fav Sherlock story: probably HOUND, though I also like SIGN OF FOUR (which I also adpated with Richardson as Holmes), and VALLEY OF FEAR.

Fav Sherlock actor:  Jeremy Brett, because he was the truest to the character and not afraid to make Holmes thoroughly disagreeable and waspish, as he could often people.

Fav re-invention of Sherlock:  SHERLOCK TV series with Benedict Cumberbatch.  Remarkably faithful in tone and spirit to Doyle.

Unlikely, they'll find the missing bits and I'm not sure that it would be an improvement.  There is a dvd that has tried to re-assemble the missing bits with photos and soundtrack dialogue.  Having watched it, I'm just not sure that it all doesn't just distract from the main story.  Still there is much to like in this uneven film...AND MIKLOS ROZSA SCORE IS CERTAINLY THE BEST SHERLOCK MOVIE SCORE EVER and one of the best movie scores, period.

I like the current SHERLOCK on television as mentioned by DR CHARLES POGUE.

AND I like the current two SHERLOCK HOLMES movies with Robert Downey Jr & Jude Law.....although they have strayed FAR from the original SH in their execution.....but both actors are enjoyable and the stories are fast-moving and funny....

I am looking for a nice MP3 player with a touchscreen.....not an IPOD.....but nothing gets very good reviews, and I don't want a piece of junk.....so the search continues.

I like my ZenStone. No touchscreen, but it's easily maneuverable.

TOD:

Favorite Stories (of those I've read):  A STUDY IN SCARLETT, HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES

Favorite movies:  I like just about all of the Basil Rathbone films. In fact, the Sherlock Holmes movies were my introduction to Basil Rathbone, so I'm always taken aback a bit when he otherwise turns up as a villian in other movies.

I also enjoy THE SEVEN PERCENT SOLUTION and the Benedict Cumberbatch series.

More TOD:

Favorite Play:  THE CRUCIFER OF BLOOD

Least Favorite Novel:  THE ITALIAN SECRETARY by Caleb Carr.  (I wish Carr would write another book featuring The Alienist and his Gang of adverturers.)

Good morning, all!

Back at work.  Survived yesterday.

Sleep is problematic as I'm having sweats.

I can sleep, but I wake up when the sweats turn cold.   I'm blaming the antibiotics I'm taking twice a day for spurring my body toward a feverish state during the night, but I have to get up, put my pillow into the dryer, change my shirt and generally "wake up" until I can comfortably return to bed.   I did this three times last night.  It's getting old.

Otherwise, I'm feeling better as it turns out.

Looking forward to the weekend!!!
