Well, you've read the notes, the notes were about headshots, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they think headshots today are udder nonsense.

The first concert I went to was when I was aged 10 in 1956. It was a special school classical music concert conducted by Muir Mathieson with, I think, the LSO. They performed at a local school (not my school) which had a big theater hall - I recall sitting in the circle. The only piece which I remember being played and recognised was Holst's Planet Suite. At that time Mars from the suite was very popular as it was used as the theme for the BBC TV series Quatermas II. After then, I always notced Mathieson's name on film credits.

TOD: The first concert I saw was Lou Rawls. I went with my sister, her college roommate and another friend of theirs. We were the four white people there, at least in our section of the theater. And we were dressed for a rock concert, while the rest of the audience was dressed in their best, complete with their Sunday crowns. Great concert.

TOD:

Probably some organ recital in Columbus, because organ was the initial focus of my musical interest as a child.  I remember one in particular in Mees Hall at Capital University, where I saw the woman play who was to become my first organ teacher soon after.

There was also some duo-pianist concert about that time.  I will probably never have any way of discovering who they were.  Not Ferrante and Teicher, though my parents had a few of their records.  Probably someone regional, and I believe the concert was performed in our church.

I don't think I attended any instrumental concerts other than piano or organ till we'd moved to Florida a couple of years later.  Florida is where I saw my first live theater, and it wasn't until much later that I would have been to any other kind of live venue such as a club.

I was in grade school.  There was a field trip down to the Music Hall theater where a children's concert of classical music was presented.

Glad to hear the show went well.....

TOD:

Besides those concerts given by my family band.....I would guess that my first REAL concert was one by Sonny & Cher.....opened by David Brenner - it was rather lackluster.....although

We were standing outside with a group of people before the show began.....and a big car pulled up, and I got pushed forward and stepped on Cher's toe as she was rushed into the building.  She just looked at me and said "Damn!"

Good morning. I have jury duty today.

TOD: When I was about 13, my Girl Scout troop decided to disband. So we had a frenzy of spending our treasury money so we didn't have to turn it over to the state administrators. We went to see Three Dog Night at the Phoenix Coliseum. What is funny about that is that my mom wouldn't allow me to go see Donny Osmond at The Coliseum, because "they do drugs there."  I doubt there were drugs at Donny's concert; there certainly was funny smoke at the Three Dog Night concert.

Monday morning greetings!  We were at the vampire's blood lab shortly after 8 this morning, where it took 2 people and 3 sticks to get the vials needed for tests ordered by 2 different doctors.  We then went out for a nice breakfast at Cracker Barrel and now I'm ready for a nap.

TOD - the first concerts I remember attending were the ones my sister was in when she attended our high school 9 years ahead of me.  There were winter and spring extravaganzas, featuring the entire music department.  Also, in the spring, there was Band-o-rama, with the concert band, marching band, and jazz band, whose theme was Peter Gunn.  My sister was in the vocal groups and I remember the big excitement when she had a solo, "Many a New Day," from OKLAHOMA.  I learned a lot of concert etiquette from attending those events with my parents.

First professional pop concert was Peter, Paul, and Mary at Detroit's Masonic Auditorium.  Went with a group of high school friends and felt very hip.  At the same venue, I saw The Kingston Trio and Bette Midler on her first tour, with Barry Manilow as her pianist and Melissa Manchester as one of the Harlettes.

Greetings from Toyland! I got here to find the internet still out, so I called our service and threw a fit. About 15 minutes ago a very nice technician showed up, found the problem was a defective insert where our router plugs into the phone line. It was replaced, he left, and I am extremely relieved. I have music to print, and music to scan and send as pdfs to Dublin.

TOD:

Never been much for live performer concerts...probably the first one I saw was Andy Williams who was sang at my University at Homecoming.

Every year our high school chorus did a concert at the high school with the Cincinnati Symphony in the school gym.  These were probably the first concerts I attended.  The chorus did a couple of pieces with the Orchesta, then they did several symphonic pieces.  I was later a member of this chorus..these were often conducted by a young associate conductor, Erich Kunzel.  Kunzel later rose to prominence in Cincinnati and world-wide as the conductor of the Cincinnati Pops.  A much beloved figure in Cincy.

I also remember as a young actor going to see concerts, probably really nightclub acts, of Anthony Newley and Bobby Short at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas, Texas.  I've seen a few of Bobby Short's concerts.

Only got to see Short once, but what a performer. Love his records.

I did see several concerts at school....student performances.....but I don't remember much about them.  Even the ones I happened to be in.....although apropos of some of the comments yesterday.....the boys wore CROW beaks made out of rolled up black construction paper and we did a routine called "Jump Jim Crow" which in retrospect seems very un PC.

I think I posted my latest headshot...which seems to follow MR BK's WHAT NOT TO DO guidelines.  Maybe I will crop it before I use it again.  Of course, I can paste my short resume on the front where my shirt is....

Barnes & Noble is going to close at least 20 stores a year for the next 10 years. Bummer. But not wholly unexpected.
