DR Jane the books you want to buy on your nook, can't you just request them from your library and have your library buy them?

Not for eBooks.

DR George and anyone else who has a kindle.

I just recently found on that i can email stuff to my kindle. My email address is on my kindle's approved list. So if i find something I want to read on my kindle i can just send it there.

For example some authors have free short stories. I just copy whatever to microsoft word save it on my USB. Then i go into my email and send an email to my kindle with the file as an attachment. It takes like two minutes. And then you don't have to read off the computer!

You can't make suggestions for ebooks?

Patrons can (and do) request e-books and downloadable talking books, music and movies at our libraries.  Our selectors regularly purchase items from patron requests.

I forgot that Keith purchased, using his Nook aap, THE GREAT BRIDGE by David McCullough which I will read one of these days.  My Nook library shows 45 books, all of which I've read or am reading.

Yesterday, my father, Jack Shayne, was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contribution for starting The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada. I am so proud of him.

Congratulations to DR Mike's father!

I'm glad I watched Downton Abbey on Monday--Tuesday's Washington Post had an article about the big surprise.

And on a sad note:  Patty Andrews of Andrews Sisters dead at 94. :'(

I saw Maxine Andrews in Follies in Seattle in (I think) 1995 at the 5th Avenue.  Here's the cast that played both Seattle and Theater Under the Stars:

Cast
Phyllis Rogers Stone - Constance Towers
Sally Durant Plummer - Judy Kaye
Ben Stone - Walter Charles
Buddy Plummer - John-Charles Kelly
Carlotta Campion - Karen Morrow
Stella Deems - Kelly Britt
Young Phyllis - Amy Dolan
Young Ben - James Clow
Young Sally - Liz McCarthy
Young Buddy - Brian d'Arcy James
Billie Whitman - Virginia Mayo
Wally Whitman - Billy Barnes
Solange Lafitte - Denise Darcel
Hattie Walker - Maxene Andrews
Heidi Schiller - Edie Adams
Young Heidi - Kimberly Lane
Roscoe - Adam Petroski

(The names in bold are people that I've heard of.)

She really outlived her siblings.  Sad to know the last of them is gone.

Good morning, all.

Packed and hopefully ready to go. I dropped the bird off at the Tweet Suite. He was almost accommodating, but I don't think he likes his few days away from me too much.

watch out for the penguins

Patty Andrews was married to Marty Melcher when he met Doris Day and started running around with her.

Doris' manager was quoted in Doris' autobiography that "Marty loved Patty's money until Doris' money came along, and then because there was more of it, he loved Doris' money more."

The manager also related the tale of the night Doris' mother called him and told him that Patty Andrews was on her front porch hollering for Marty to come out of the house.  Doris and Marty were out some place.  Doris' mother said Patty had a baseball bat and was making short work of the screen door.

Ever since I read that, I have wondered why the Patty Andrews Special was never sold alongside the Louisville Slugger.

Reading the mention of HOT IN CLEVELAND here I just checked to see how far behind we are. We just had ep 3-16. And I guess you guys are on season 4.
I'm watching season three on DVD. I got through episode 13, I think, and had to return it this morning. The last episode I saw was when Susan Lucci moved in with the girls. Great self-parody.

I was reading this a looking at Maggie Smith at the same time  and thought
Susan Lucci moved into Downton Abbey?

In HD.....Miss Maggie Smith.....is beginning to look....her age......

She looks pretty aged, that's for sure.

Still, I wonder how much of it is "makeup".

Of course, one can ask that about "this photo" (with Pauline Collins) from her 2013 film "Quartet" in which she looks ever so much better than she does in "Downton Abbey".

of course that was 10 years ago

Except for getting a great son from the relationship I think Doris was the loser, not Patty.

Person to help with the printer didn't show up even forty minutes later (eventually called and hadn't even left yet - I declined any further help at that point, since I was in the midst of doing it myself).  So, I called HP, got a nice gent on the phone, and he had me plug in the thing, install the ink and he talked me through the set-up.  After setting up the printer itself and getting it to "find" my network, then he had me use the CD to install, since it was indeed okay for Lion operating systems.  That took about ten minutes, we "added" the printer and attempted to print.  I went to a Word doc and it wouldn't print saying Word wasn't recognizing the printer.  He said not to worry at the moment, had me print from a PDF, which was fine, and then set up the scanner to work, which it did just fine.  Once all that was done, he said Word had a known issue with the printer and that I'd have to call Apple to get that worked out.

I then called Apple, got a nice gent on the phone, we did some tests, then he had me check software updates and there was one for the printer - we did it, and voila, Word printed fine, so all is well and well is all and I once again can print.

I have another book available through the library.  I had better read faster.  I slept fairly decent the last two nights and didn't get much reading done.  Sleep is good.  I should be reading now instead.
