TOD:

Liza Minnelli:
Arrested Development
New York, New York
Cabaret

Bob Fosse:
I was lucky enough to see Big Deal, which had a structure that worked against it, but so much good stuff, including "Beat Me, Daddy, Eight to the Bar" and "Me and My Shadow."
Hot Honey Rag
Sing, Sing, Sing
Who's Got the Pain?
Steam Heat
From This Moment On
The snake dance from "The Little Prince"
And too many more to remember this early.

Good morning, all!  Last night, I coudn't sleep and I was awake until a little after 1:00zam.  So, I am a bit groggy this morning after less than six hours of sleep.  Around 8:45 I will head for the barber.

After that, I'll head down to Toyland, see what needs to be accomplished, and come home.

Two of the three Broadway shows I ever saw were Fosse shows. Pippin and Chicago. Michael Rupert was Pippin and Eric Berry who was the original Charlemagne was still there. As for Chicago the original cast except for Chita Rivera was still in the show.

I also saw Dancing, but have no memory of anything from it.

Sweet Charity (Donna McKechnie)

As for Liza Minnelli I thought as good as she was as Sally, she was so wrong for the role. As an actress she always left me cold.

Good morning, all.

Well, here we are again.  Today I must join the panic shoppers at the supermarket in advance of tomorrow's storm.  Oy!  Why do I let myself fall into that trap?  Well, I don't need much so it won't really take too long.  It's just an annoying annoyance.

I was also shock to see Michael York on the Today show. He is ill (Multiple Myeloma)and is on steroid treatment. Most actors wouldn't show their faces in public, but he had the courage to do so.

I worked with him on the first film I ever did. It was supposed to be a sizable role but in rewrites it went down to nothing.

Martin Ross was the Emcee

You could have seen Larry Kert as Cliff or even Ken Kercheval who later went onto fame in the TV series Dallas

The local critic didn't care much for the new Brad Ellis musical.

I just want to say I really enjoyed the detailed write-up on CABARET in the notes this morning.  That kind of thing is always satisfying, whether I know a particular film intimately or not at all.  And when it's about one of the latter, I learn more about whether I should pursue it than from any typical "review" -- or, heaven forfend, a plethora of "customer reviews".  In fact, the very reason I've been on HTF for so long is exactly this kind of thing -- whether it's a post by BK or by Robert Harris or one of a small handful of others who have the surprisingly rare ability of putting a few worthwhile thoughts in order, and illuminating something.

That's the same poltroon who reviewed your local stop of the "Peter Pan" tour. Sounds like he needs find something he's more interested in than theater.

And who among us has seen all of Bob Merrill's shows, as he has? I've seen "Funny Girl" and I have a DVD of "Take Me Along." Nobody does them enough any more.

Thursday morning greetings!  I have been out and about BY MYSELF this morning - went for a blood test, then did a little shopping at Target.  Not 100%, but greatly improved.

We all have different memories of films, of course.   My memory of "Cabaret" is that it was spectacular: Marvelously acted and directed, and the camerawork was brilliant.  I don't get that same "visual impression" from this Blu ray.  Things are rather dark-ish.  Yes, there is soft-focus, but that's not an issue.   Of course, I saw the film on its release in a theater...several times.  My memories are somewhat different.  Of course, it is possible that watching it on a 37-inch plasma doesn't allow full justice to what has been accomplished.

Still, I'm delighted to have this BD of the film.  It's been a long time coming for one of the 70s' most brilliant achievements.
