Wednesday morning greetings!  Cold and dreary here today, with the possibility of a "wintery mix."   :P

We had a crazy evening of sleet last night, for what seemed like several hours.  I could hear it throughout the house.  Fortunately, miraculously, it was all rain this morning, with no mix or ice or anything at all on the roads or sidewalks.  Very strange.  But I shall not look a gift horse in the mouth.

Yeow!  Adriana indeed!  Good for her.

But I just happened to skim down the article, and it says the principal initially advised her that he'll investigate, and to please DELETE THE VIDEO.     :o :o

Big Brother Canada is starting tonight. Should be interesting (first season here). They have free live feeds (which i probably won't watch) and BBAD.

They had Dan from BB US in Toronto yesterday and today on a BB slop truck (giving people tastings).

Interesting discussion in the notes about audio books.  Do any DRs listen to them? I don't think I've ever listened to one before. I see a lot of avid readers on blogs who listen to them instead of reading the book.  I think it might be interesting to take a book you like and then listen to the audio recording. But I would find it very weird to listen to the book instead of reading it and then review it.   I mean if you review it totally as an audio book fine.

I've only listened to a handful of audio books over the years, but I love them.  I mostly listen when on long drives, so that's why I don't hear nearly as many as I'd like.  But having a book read to you, as long as it's done really well, is totally rewarding, and just about as good -- maybe I shouldn't even qualify that -- just AS damned good as reading it on the page.

ask bk

is you audio book going to be one person reading all the parts or is it going to br more of a play with different actors playing the roles lile what LA Theaterworks does?

I think one person, if that's possible - we'll have to see.

I read a lot of books with my ears.  Started using audiobooks when I had a long commute to and from work and now I use them when I exercise on the treadmill and NuStep, when I knit, and when doing mindless household tasks.

The reader makes all the difference and often I'll choose to listen to something because it's read by one of my favorite voices - Kate Reading, Orlagh Cassidy, C. J. Critt, Grace Conlin.  Once I started listening to Willa Cather's My Antonia, narrated by some woman who was awful.  When I found the same book narrated by George Guidall, I was much more satisfied.  Richard and I got to be in the studio when he was recording Nathaniel Philbrick's book about the Mayflower.  Fascinating process to watch.

Jim Dale's recordings of the Harry Potter books are brilliant!

Love my audio books. I agree with DR Ginny on Jim Dale reading the Potter books. Superb.

I prefer Stephen King on audio to reading him. And I love reliving old favorites by listening to them. I recently listened to Middlemarch and, before that, Anna Karenina. Listening to them provided a different insight into the works.

Right now, I'm listening to Lou Diamond Phillips read Tom Wolfe's latest, "Back to Blood." I think his reading is better than Wolfe's ocassionally overblown prose.

Apparently, Dale Robertson has also died.

He used to live in my condo complex in Calabasas.

For some reason I had thought Van Cliburn had died a few years back.

I remember that my best friend in Jr High's mother was a big fan of Van Cliburn.

A couple of popular film dancers just passed away, also.

John Brascia, who performed this wonderful number with  Vera Ellen in WHITE CHRISTMAS

He was a great dancer. Not an actor. Could barely get through his few lines. But that Abraham number and Choreography are both wonderful displays of his dancing.

Van Cliburn has died...

So has operetta historian Richard Traubner, a very strange man.
