There's lots of very popular and revered Altman, such as NASHVILLE, that I haven't seen, which usually leaves people aghast when they hear that. Maybe someday I'll get to it. When I tried to watch MASH a couple of years ago for the first time since the 1970s, I found it boring and couldn't quite bring back what all the excitement had been about. That sounds harsher than intended, though. I don't dislike Altman's style, but he's certainly not one of my all-time favorite directors.

My favorite films of his are THE PLAYER and SHORT CUTS, for the material and for the appropriately sprawling way in which he captures L.A. And THE LONG GOODBYE, which I hated back in the day for not being "literal" Chandler, but there's quite a bit (not everything, but quite a bit) that I can appreciate about it now.

TOD: I am a major Altman fan, but even I have to admit that I have to be in the right mood to watch some of his movies, especially Images, A Cold Day in the Park and Quintet. Yet I love the way he overlaps dialogue and weaves stories in an out of his other.

I did get to meet him for a split second at a weird promotional event for "A Wedding" back in the day. I was in high school, and in conjunction with the movie, the film's bride, Amy Stryker, was featured in a department store's bridal department. She and Altman and I think someone else were all there in a greeting line.

Favorites include Kansas City, The Company, Prairie Home Companion, Brewster McCloud, Nashville, Gosford Park, Cookie's Fortune, The Long Goodbye, Secret Honor, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, HealtH and A Perfect Couple.

He is the only director whose films I collect on DVD and he directed a lot. While I have about 30 of his movies, I still have more than a dozen titles to go.

There is no way for a package to take 24 hours to get from Europe to the US.

One make must take into consideration the flying time from Europe to North America. I am not sure if the plane flies directly into Memphis or not, but It has to get there first. Sort and then flown to LA and then sent to the local depot and then put on the correct truck. Logistically there is no way to get it there within 24hrs. It is always at least two days and this is from someone who ha been sending a lot of packages to England and France from the East Coast for customers.

I've always enjoyed his stranger films like

Images
3 Women

and he also did a series of plays that were not quite filmed stage versions and not re-envisioned for the screen

MASH will always be my favorite.

And NASHVILLE was supposed to be two films. I haven't seen it in a long time, but it's considered to be his masterpiece. PS The footage for the two part Nashville was shot whether is till exists or not is anyone's guess.

And looking over his credits there are quite a lot of films I have never seen

NASHVILLE - and I enjoy listening to the soundtrack as well.

THE COMPANY - the dance sequences are especially nice

I like most of Robert Altman's movies that I have seen, but I don't seek them out, and I certainly haven't seen them all.

Good morning, all! I did not get to sleep as well as I wuld have preferred, but i am up, dressed. moving, and ready to head down to Toyland.

I'd like to fnish a major chunk, if not all, of "Lovely To Look At." It's one helluva long score.

NASHVILLE may be one of my 5 favorite films: amazng cast, some nice surprises in character and plot, and moments that can bring me to tears simply thinking about them. I saw it on its opening day and saw it again the next. I still wish Altman hadn't been taken off RAGTIME. Much as I love it, I find it a painful film to watch often. It's a heartbreaker. JRand62, I too love the soundtrack recording.
