I received a message this morning that I got third place in the Oscar contest at the local movie theater!   I didn't think I did that well, lol.  So I get a $20 gift certificate.  That means I've been in the top 3 for the past 3 years.  That's cool
Congratulations!

Didn't you win tickets last year, too, DR Cillaliz?
Two years ago I won free passes for up to 4 people for a year.  After that year they never offered that prize again, lol.  Now first place gets $100 gift cert. I think Second gets $50 and third gets $20.

My 18 year old nephew from Minnesota is coming for a visit. He will be here on Sunday and leaves Friday late morning. We are prepped and ready. He loves Phantom so we are seeing that show and then whatever else happens. If the weather is nice we will walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. We will probably take the Staten Island Ferry so he can see the Statue of Liberty (instead of going to Liberty Island). The Ferry is the easiest way to see the SOL. You don't have to pay for the trip to Liberty Island and wait in lines. We have done this for many guests and they enjoy the relaxing boat ride and the view of the Statue. We will tour Times Square, our neighborhood and other areas. We will probably also go to the

Forbes Galleries

as well. It's in our neighborhood. It's a small, free museum featuring the eclectic collections of Malcolm Forbes, including toy soldiers, Faberge eggs, autographs and other ephemera. It's a wonderful space and it's not well known so it's rarely crowded.

The first time I went to New York (I was 18), I was warned that I would be disappointed if I went out to Liberty Island.  Naturally, i didn't listen; and I was disappointed to see how small the Statue of Liberty is compared to what I had imagiined.  Later, when I was living in New Jersey and guests would visit; I would warn them, but they wouldn't listen.  The Staten Island Ferry is a much better option.

Congrats, Cillaliz!  Maybe next year you can tell us your choices and we can enter contests and win, too! ;)

I usually predict the obvious.  I think I may have guessed Ang Lee for directing and Django for script.  The tie breaker was # of awards for Lincoln.  I have no idea what I guessed on that.  I didn't put much thought into it this year.   I've discovered that many people try to be tricky and think they'll pick one of the long shots and win it all.  There really aren't that many surprises by the time you get to the show

The closing segment of tonight's CBS 6:30 news was a wonderful story about an 89 year-old illiterate man in Oklahoma who wanted to read.  The story dealt with the fact that he finally found a marvelous teacher who broke through his reading problems, and he's now read three 3rd-grade level books. It was quite touching.

The guy who was in his house when it was swallowed by a sink hole and became trapped under the house lived in Sefner, FL.  Isn't that where Danise is from?

I never drive my car far enough to need the GPS.  When we first got it we did take it to LA once or twice & Keith used the GPS.  Since my clock is part of the GPS system Keith has always changed the clock for me.  Without Sherlock Keith never drives my car and I was too lazy to read how to change the clock.

Today I realized soon it will be daylight savings and I'm glad I never took the time to bother with the clock.

Very sorry to hear about Bonnie - lovely person - saw her last when she came to one of the Kritzerland shows at the Gardenia.

I was just about to ask you if she hadn't been at one of the shows.

Some of these cast/show recording sites have the stupidest folk! There a person who uses all three names who once worked for Rodgers & Hammerstein and pontificates about everything R&H; curiously, the few who remember him there think he's a total loser; there's the critic for FANFARE magazine who knows zilch about anything and pontificates on his stupidity at the drop of a hat, and the list goes on. Oy!

That means north of Dr ArnoldBrockman and myself. :-)

That is a sad story and oh so strange.

We did not like THE THIRD MAN and I found the music extremely annoying.

You may have seen the recut American version. I think the British version is the better cut. But if one doesn't like the movie it won't matter which version you saw

And interesting side note about the Third Man

There was a radio series that starred the villain of the story and made him a hero.

Won't mention who it is in case someone wants to see the film.

I heard that the sinkhole was in Tampa. I didn't know it was in Seffner. I'm glad Danise is ok.

Please explain something to me...

WHY is the Jodi Arias case such a big case? It's pretty open and shut. At least in the Casey Anthony case, they didn't know WHO did it.
