We are at 50 degrees right now.  I have question.  What temp do you all set your thermostat on when it's cold?  I have mine on 68 but it still seems cold in the house.  I put the little doggie blankets I found at walmart on the dogs last night.  They seem to like them.

I have mine set at 68 too, DR Danise.

And while we are on the topic of musicals today, here is a question for you all:

Mae-Ling seems to be interested in musicals lately. Can you nice folks recommend a few good shows kids can watch that I could get on dvd? So far she has seen the Cathy Rigby version of Peter Pan. We tried watching the movie version of Phantom of the Opera, but it was pretty bad.

So far I have "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and "Music Man" on my list.

Wae-Ling is still very happy to watch Peter Pan while she is here.

Do you want movie musicals or stage shows recorded on dvd?

I know my niece loved Mary Poppins the musical (she hasn't seen the movie yet).

I think the stage version of "Mary Poppins" is a piece of garbage, but the young ladies should love the movie. It's fantastic!'They might like the leprechaun in the film of "Finian's Rainbow." Teach them some social injustice! And witchcraft.

Cinderella, Sound of Music, The movie of Mary Poppins is really fun. I loved that as a kid.

When Richard opened the front door to go out for the newspapers, he found a surprise for me from DR Elmore!  Thank you, friend of friends!

C'est rien!

Greetings from Toyland!

Mine is at about 71 at night and when I'm gone and 73 when I'm home.  That 2 degrees seems to make a big difference.  The biggest thing to do is shut curtains or blinds at night and make sure there aren't air leaks coming in under the door.  Since it's not cold all the time there, you can just put a rolled up towel along the bottom of the door.

I have posted on Anderson's and Angie's Facebook pages on Danise's behalf.  Sure makes you skeptical about what you see on TV, huh?

I might write an occasional song, but my son, David, is the real musician in the family.

I always enjoy films set in the business world and I particularly enjoyed NARROW MARGIN about the banking crisis which was on TV yesterday. Kevin Spacey is always perfectly cast in these types of films, looking as he does, every inch the business executive.  I came across him when I was in New York in 2007 whilst walking along 47th St:

Got 10 hours of sleep last night, which was most welcome.

Great photo, Doug R.

We'll have a visit from Mary Linda today, because Paramedic Rob picked up a 24-hour shift at work.  This is a first for him.

I can't thnk of an opening number I hate. Too many shows of the past 30 years I've detested so why worry about their opening numbers?  The opening to "A Little Night Music" is confusing: vocal overture, then a dance with characters you've not yet met, all before the libretto kicks in. Nice music but poorly assembled.

Thank you, DR Elmore.  I love the entire rest of the musical, but that entire opening sequence has never once "settled" with me.  We did it up here in a small venue a few years back, and if I recall correctly we more or less followed the original album cuts on the opening.  (Might have left a few other bars in, but not much.)  And it worked just f'ing fine, thankyouverymuch, "Stefan" Sondheim.    :)

I love it, if only because it was the musical that made me a musical fan, but I also agree that the meaning doesn't become clear until much, much later in the show. Without taking the cast into consideration, what do you think of the opening of the movie of "Night Music"? It seems much cleaner and clearer to me.

I'm up, I'm up, after a nightmarish evening of almost no sleep.  I think I finally dozed off at six-thirty was up at ten and right back to sleep and up now.  So, definitely four and a half hours and maybe an hour besides, but I HATE when this happens on show day, which is frequent.

Well, I was at Toyland for more than four hours, and by 1:30, neither Curtis nor the toner he said would be delivered had shown up. So I left. I do not like it when people you need to see say they'll be in and never show, nor respond.

So, I'm home.
