DR MBARNUM Natalie Trundy was also in MR HOBBS TAKES A VACATION and a couple of the later PLANET OF THE APES movies, because she was married to their producer Arthur P. Jacobs, after being his girlfriend for a few years.

TOD:

Aside from the movie, the only stage production of HELLO, DOLLY! I've seen was in Los Angeles with Ginger Rogers and David Burns.

I know she's great, but I've never been a big fan of Carol Channing.  I did see her on stage in Seattle when she did a tour with George Burns, and also in Los Angeles at the Shubert in LORELI ( think it was called that.) , a "sequel" to GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES.

I'm up after a pretty good night's sleep.  Sounds like the entire hotel population is on the floor below getting their made to order free breakfasts and lots of kids partaking, too, and you can smell the food right here inside my room.

I first saw Mary Martin in HELLO, DOLLY!  in the first national tour, which was fantastic, then Ginger Rogers  who as "so-so" on Broadway, and then Channing in the 1978(?) Houston Grand Opera tour and on Broadway in the production that BK recorded.

Woke up to a covering of snow and the very cold weather is set to continue all of next week, into Easter. They are now saying it could end up as the coldest March for the UK in 100 years!

I saw Carol Channing in the Abe Burrows-David Merrick production FOUR ON A GARDEN (which went on to flop for some reason, although it looks formn my notes like it was an absolute  howl to the audience I saw it with, which included Art Carney right near us and Sheila MacRae who really took time and wrote a lovely sweet note when she gave her autograph and I recall seemed amused in a good way that an 11-year-old Carol Channing fan was at a sex farce) - the show co-starred Sid Caesar and featured George S. irving.  And also in it was a very charming young actor, who i see from a little "review' i wrote for a class paper at school on what we did during our school vacations, did indeed make an impression on me in a few small but I guess  bit showy roles -

His name was: Tom Lee Jones!

It is only a 70 minutes long film, but it feels like I have been watching it for about 4 hours and it is still not over.

I know the feeling. There are films which after watching for 30 minutes you think will never start, followed by the even worse thought that they will never end.

Saturday afternoon greetings!  I was up early this morning to help clear out the AAUW book sale site.  We've had a more or less permanent site at the mall for several years for the rock-bottom rent of $700/ year.  The new owners of the mall wanted to raise the rent beyond our means, so we've vacated that space, stored the better books and our tables in various homes, and are on the lookout for a new venue.

Now I'm home to watch Michigan basketball - Go, Blue!

TOD

I've never seen a production of HELLO, DOLLY or the movie!  I think it may be the title song which I have always found really off-putting.  Never liked it.

TOD - I've seen Carol Channing as Dolly twice.  First time was Easter Sunday of 1966 or 1967 at Detroit's Fisher Theatre.  Then, sometime in the '70s, my friend Becky and I saw it at Music Hall in Cincinnati.  Lee Roy Reams was in that cast.  He was a proud alum of UC's College Conservatory of Music and joined Carol for a gracious and heart-felt curtain speech.

I've rewritten the draft of the reconstruction of DEAREST ENEMY, sent it to Ted Chapin, and I am heading off to Toyland.

I'll check in from there.

TOD - I LOVE Hello, Dolly.  First time I saw the show was in 1995 with Carol Channing, I can die a happy man knowing I've seen her do the roll.  I've done the show 3 times I think.  First time was in 1997 with Sharon McNight as Dolly, quite a fun experience.  I've done it a few other times at the middle school level and it was a lot of fun.

She is also rather infamous because at Jacobs' funeral, Warren Beatty asked her out - and she accepted.

Wow, at 6:00, a hebrew version by Hannah Maron - who had been a major stage musical comedy star in israel in the 1960's until she had a leg amputated after a grenade attack in 1970, according to wikipedia.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAPmFKUsKFo

She was able to resume her acting career a while later, and did this appearance in 1986, and did this appearance in a role that had been a triumph for her in the 1960's before the violent attack - this was obviously an emotional experience of "Hello Dolly" in hebrew.

Before it is a rendition of EVITA's Don't Cry for Me, Argentina in Hebrew.  very nice translation, too.

I especially enjoyed the rendition of DON'T CRY FOR ME, ARGENTINA.

Greetings from the airport, a very small airport like Burbank, kind of.  So, no real Priority line like in LA although I got right through in a minute and through security very quickly although they, unlike LA, made first class go through that nauseating scanner thing.   Additionally, some goon also patted down my stomach even though I went through the scanner fine.  Unbelievable.
